I approve of this move.

Good experience for Kulak. He didn't look out of place for the most part, but still made rookie mistakes that you would expect. Take the experience, go down to the farm, and keep working on your game. You'll be back sooner or later.

Considering he spent most of the year in the ECHL, Kulak has to feel pretty good about his game these days. He's not quite ready for full time NHL duty, but he's darn close. Not bad for a 2nd year pro.

Very excited to see Nakladal. We really need a defenseman who's going well right now, and obviously he is. Plus, he has lots of pro experience, which should prepare him well enough for what to expect in the NHL.

Glad to see Treliving do something to shake this team up today. It badly needed it.

I second this.

Nakladal's been a stud in the Heat's games so far. I didn't actually know he'd be that good on the point during the PP.

Kulak will slot in very nicely alongside Spoon on the top pairing.

Incredible.

Byron and Granlund learned that they would have to make a few hits as role players. Their first call up they didn't bother to make any hits and they were sent down...

Last year they came up and Byron had 101 hits in 44 games and Granlund 44 in 409 games.... all things being equal then Granlund and Byron should dress before Raymond.

Hope someone explains to Kulak that he either has to be the highest skilled best D-man on the team or be willing to make a hit or 2 a game.

That said, alot of guys have been very underwhelming in the physicality department.

Darren Haynes @DarrenWHaynes
FYI - At #Flames summer development camp, Jakub Nakladal said that you pronounce his last name "nuh-CLAW-dle" (as opposed to NACK-luh-doll).

Well now he knows what he needs to work on in the AHL. This NHL experience is great for a defenseman his age. I'm sure Hartley gave him a list of things to focus on and had some positive things to say about his game as well.

I like this move by Treliving and am excited to see if Nakladal is NHL material. Looking at the AHL highlights he can definitely play a solid offensive game.

Sometimes a few players in and out is all it takes to turn a teams fortune around.

Awesome. Liked Kulak but approve of him going to Stockton to work on a few things. Never looked too out of place, he'll be back

It's nice to hear that Nakladal has developed his offensive game so much. Looking back at any write-ups about his career to this point seems to identify him as a defensive defenseman with a booming shot. That's a good place to start, as opposed to learning the defensive aspects of the game after the offensive.

So Wotherspoon officially passed by two players. Wonder how long it'll take before Kylington and Andersson pass him too.

I don't know if Wotherspoon was passed. I see Nakladal coming in as a potentially NHL ready player. If Wideman has really been shopped hard over the last year, he could have been brought for a look as a possible replacement. Wotherspoon definitely needs to set himself apart from Kulak if he wants to prove he's ready for the jump, and so far Kulak has won that battle.

Great timing to put Kulak back. His game was starting to fade a bit, so send him back with good vibes on a good stint in the NHL and a 'see you soon' -- opposed to 'go find your game again' if they let him flounder. Not that he was going to flounder, just that they noticed the play and excitement starting to slide a bit.

Nakladal was a lot of fun to watch in pre-season. Really looking forward to what he can bring to this team in desperate need of some pep.

At risk of sounding too wide-eyed, I wouldn't be surprised to see him getting a few reps in practice with Giordano. No question Gio wants a partner until Brodie comes back, and I'm not ready to give up on Russell and Wideman finding their groove together again.

Next year in pentiction. Wotherspoon was vastly overrated because our prospect pool was thinner.

He has plateaued and is unlikely to be anything more than a #6 defensemen where as the other prospects can achieve more.

So with this and Smid coming off of IR, the flames are at the 23 man mark now that Ramo is waived?

Assuming Ramo is claimed or assigned to Stockton:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Hudler
Ferland-Backlund-Frolik
Colborne-Bennett-Jones
Raymond-Stajan-Jooris
Bollig

Gio-Wideman
Smid-Hamilton
Russell-Engelland
Nakladal

Hiller
Ortio

That's 22.

That was bugging me watching the Heat highlights. It's good to know the play-by-play wasn't butchering his name.

Assuming he gets into the game, I bet we see Nakladal on the PP on Friday. He looked deadly on the point in Stockton.

Gio - Wideman
Russell - Hamilton
Smid - Nakladal

Might honestly be our best hope until Brodie comes back

I think that there is a strong likelihood that a Brodie-Hamilton pairing is attempted once Brodie is back. To that end, I wouldn't be surprised to see Smid-Hamilton as a filler, and not think of it as a demotion for Hamilton.

We may also see both Wideman and Nakladal tried on Giordano's right side, to see if there is any natural chemistry. The only pairing that I would be actually surprised by seeing is Russell-Hamilton.
