Bennett needs another 15 lbs to effectively play his game IMO. He looks good out there besides that. He'll be a force once he matures a bit more physically and continues to learn mentally.

I agree him and Hopkins have similar builds and need to bulk up and get stronger but Hopkins put up 52pts in 62 games as an 18 year old rookie. Age and size didn't really seem like an issue for him when it came to producing.

Thanks guys, admittedly I haven't been able to watch many Flames games this season don't get many on TV so I've been watching the game threads and generally concerned he's been getting lumped in with the rest of the team's play. Good to hear that by the sounds of it he's still on track and not being damaged if for any reason but his young age.

Agreed, it's going to be a slow season for Bennett points wise, but the experience gained will be beneficial in the long run.

I've often looked at TOI as an indication of performance at least from the coach's perspective.

Bennet had 15:53 of TOI last night with 1:20 PPT

- Gaudreau with 17:51 TOI (2:40 PPT)

- Monahan with 16:35 (2:30 PPT)

- Hudler 14:54 2:23PPT

So even though Bennett isn't racking up the points, he's at least doing the things that are keeping him on the ice.

19 Y/O tenacious S.O.B will be fine.

I don't think Bennett will have the offensive season most people were expecting. He also needs to put on more weight/muscle to play the style of game he's used to. He seems to bounce off players a lot. But I'm not at all worried about him. I thought I heard somewhere that he's only 19, so he has plenty of time.

He is very easily pushed over. Needs more gym time.

What's his weight right now? I heard he added 8 pounds over the summer.

The whole team has scored 12 goals in 6 games. Johnny is responsible for more than half of those. I'm not worried about his offensive production -- he had some good looks last night. It will come.

Not sure why Bennett is so highly touted as the saviour of the Flames. If his shoulder issue persists, he's just gonna end up another FATA. There's almost no comparison between him and Monahan. Yeah, there's flashes of him going hard to the boards, but damn, he's not big enough to be a power forward that everyone thinks he is or he thinks he is.

"Saviour"?
"Power forward"?
"FATA"???

This is a really poor characterization of the temperature on this board at least as it pertains to Bennett, expectations, and potential.

He is not a power forward, and I don't believe I have seen any suggestions that this is the sort of player into which he should develop.

He is a terrific prospect, but I don't recall many putting forward such lofty expectations for his deliverance of the franchise. He could very realistically end up being the Flames best player before too long. Is that the same as projecting him to be a "saviour"?

And no. Sam Bennett is NOTHING LIKE Rico Fata.

Bennett is a buzz saw that's for sure. He does alot of things right. I can't help but always think "don't get hurt" every time he's on the ice, the way he plays.

Not worried at all about Bennett. He'll have a breakout game pretty soon. I think his development this year will be similar to horvat's last season.

My thoughts exactly. He puts himself at risk a lot, and needs at least 15 more pounds if he wants to play that way.

I've said before that I worry about concussions with Bennett, and now find myself worrying about his shoulder too. Still hoping he gets some coaching in that regard, in the sense that he should rely on skill rather than brawn at this stage. His game can readjust to its present form as he gets more solid.

Not concerned about Bennett. He is doing things right out there.

Concerned whether or not the team can play as a team. Assigning Ramo was a step in the right direction. I think we'll see immediate improvement next game in team play.

Bennett has played "ok". I would not ever have high expectations for a rookie in his first season anyways.

With this being said, he hasn't played even close to the same level he did in last seasons playoffs, but neither have the Flames entire roster. Its tough to say how he is doing after 4 or 5 games, but to me he has been pretty blah. Not impressed so far.

Interesting Sportak segment on 960.

He said when he talked to Todd Gill (Bennett's Kingston coach) about Bennett in training camp. Gill pointed out that Bennett played LW with McDavid as the center before he got to the OHL. Gill said Bennett worked his butt off to learn how to play center in the OHL and he will work his butt off to learn center in the NHL. The interesting part is Sportak said Gill would not admit Bennett is a natural center.

Put Hudler and Gaudreau with Bennett for a game or two. Pure speed and skill.

Monahan can cycle with Colborne and Frolik. Would be a exhausting 2nd line to play against. Monahan makes that line instantly better.

Probably wont happen though. Hartley is loyal as he said during the 3 headed goalie fiasco.

Bah. RNH played on a team where development, defense, and winning didn't matter as long as you were flashy and helped get another high pick.

I think that's also the best production RNH has ever had.
