Not to derail the thread but I think Hartley is in a similar boat. I think he has 2 years max left in Calgary because he is just such a demanding coach

Claude Julien will be the first coach fired. The Bruins have been terrible, and he wasn't Sweeny's coach to begin with. Unless they get back on track right away, he's gone.

Their key players are post apex for the most part. Also confidence is huge and they had a rough season last year, could snowball quick if they don't turn it around early.

He'll obviously have a longer leash because of the recent cup wins, but it hardly makes him unfireable.

I have heard from some people that know a couple players in the Flames organization and what I was told basically Bob is not as well liked as it seems and he can be very mean when dealing with players. Again I didn't hear this first hand but the people that have told me this are reputable people and I trust what I was told. That doesn't mean he is close to being canned but I do think this team will reach a point where they tune him out and he will be gone

It's probably because he's a slightly different person behind closed doors than he is in front of a camera. Wouldn't surprise me at all if some players didn't love Hartley, because he's a very demanding coach.

I think the cup wins were the only reason he wasn't fired in the offseason.
He has 10-20 games to get them on the right track and if he doesn't he is fired. If they end up something like 2-6-2 after 10 games that might be enough right there.

Really seems off topic to be slagging Hartley in this thread.
I'm sure he is tough at times. He's there to get the best out of his players and at present he's done so to the tune of turning this team around on a dime and just won coach of the year for it.
Forecasting his departure/demise under the present circumstances seems just as odd as it does off topic in this thread.

It's no secret Bob is hard on his players. Tanguay talked about not liking it at all at first, but later appreciated how Bob made him a better player. Now he calls Bob for advice.
I assume Bob has softened somewhat compared to the way he used to be.
The whole organization from Burke down is very demanding.

Which is important, because when they showed up we were the goddamned Country Club.

No real surprise there, actually. Bob has always been somewhat divisive as a coach. But when he gets buy-in - especially from team leaders - we see what happened last year.
It's an old axiom, but it remains true: coaches are hired to be fired. Even the best of them will eventually lose a room if the team stops having success. Sutter will likely be back on his farm come Christmas. That's just the nature of the beast.

Listen I love Bob he is easily my fav coach since Darryl was behind the bench. Talking about how Sutter has a shelf life and is almost expired I mentioned that I see Hartley the same way. I am not "slagging" him at all. I think Bob is great but due to his coaching style I am doubtful he is the guy behind the bench when this team is really positioned to take a run at the cup

That's cool and all, and makes it three times in two pages you've expressed it.
As things sit now, Hartley has turned this team around in a very short amount of time and has gotten career years out of a multitude of players. At present, he's widely regarded as the best coach in the league and suggesting he's two seasons away from being fired just seems weird.
The conversation about his shelf life wearing thin is extremely premature at this point, if it's relevant at all to the topic of Sutter at present.

I agree with you on all points but that last one, and 2 years ago I'd have agreed with that as well.
Hartley has shown that he can change and adapt as his players and circumstances require.
Most coaches require players to adapt to their system or leave, Hartley appears to be more intelligent and malleable than that.

Sorry, but it's ridiculous to say a team with Doughty, Quick, Gaborik, Muzzin, Toffoli, Carter, and Kopitar is 'not very good.' That is, in fact, a very good roster.

This is what they were saying before he won his second cup. Would not shock me if he wins his third cup this year. He's that good.
