On the bright side... someone outside the first line scored.

Second periods the Flames' nemesis again. It's almost as if they break out the shots in the first intermission, get wasted, play a horrible second, and then Hartley sobers them up for a rambunctious third. I jest, but they really have to figure out why they dip so much in energy

Meh. Not great from plenty of them and there are a number of growing concerns, but that was closer than we managed in all 3 games against them last season, so I'll take the positives. 1st line contributes again, Frolik off the mark, secondary scoring shows up. We were 1-2-0 at this stage last season, so no better, no worse imo.

Already looking forward to taking on the Jets.

Maybe we will see the kings win tonight in regulation, then it isn't a total loss tonight seeing the oilers loss too.

That was a rough 2nd period. Why can't they skate hard and with purpose in the 2nd like they do in the 3rd, makes no sense to me. I don't get it, literally.

I know the Flames lost but they look dangerous. Not worried.

And Backlund had a tough game.

Move on!

There are literally worse things that could have happened.

Like the Oilers winning.

"And when the middle of the afternoon came, from being a poor poverty-stricken boy in the morning, Tom was literally rolling in wealth."

- Mark Twain, Tom Sawyer, 1876

"To his mind, the acme of first class music as such, literally knocking everything else into a cocked hat."

- James Joyce, Ulysses, 1922

"He literally glowed; without a word or a gesture of exultation a new well-being radiated from him and filled the little room."

- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, 1925

"His looks were very haggard, and his limbs and body literally worn to the bone."

- Charles Dickens, Nicholas Nickleby, 1839

"After one of those dreadful nights, when we had been literally rocked in our bed."

- Jane Austen, Sandition, 1817

Just for the record, it's the people complaining about the "misuse" of literally that are literally misusing the word. It's meaning was set long before any of us had been born.

Not a 60 minute effort and against a team like the Blues it's not going to end well. This team is still a long ways away from bringing their A game.

I'd start Ortio next game. If you're going to carry 3 goalies you might as well give them all a shot.

We had two good periods tonight. That's one more than last game, and two more than the opening night. If we can figure out how to play for 60 minutes, we should be fine.

As per usual, the Flames are still having issues showing up for 60 minutes. If they had bothered to show up in the 2nd period, they likely would have gotten at least a point out of this game. And they really need to get better in the faceoff dot. They'll never be a real contender until they can improve in this area. That being said, it was nice to see them crank up the intensity in the 3rd. There's no quit in these guys, and I love that.

Oh, and Brodie needs to come back sooner than later. Seems like there's a massive hole on D with him out of the lineup.

Brutal 2nd period, other than that I thought they were fine.

Gaudreau is amazing.

Backlund is terrible.

This literally/figuratively thing is Egregious

Gaudreau is really good. Backlund looks like he's a step slow.

Said it earlier but that top pairing is not working. May need to switch things up until Brodie comes back.

So far I've been quite disappointed with 3 key contributors that got big raises in the offseason: Backlund, Bouma, Gio.

Why not start Ortio, why carry 3 goalies? I agree. Hiller was good tonight, we can't fault him for losing. The team in front of him was terrible in the 2nd period.

If Bouma is out I wouldn't mind seeing Granlund in on the wing, playing with Backlund and Jooris.
