Flames and Canucks take turns ruining each other's home openers. I expect the boys to be re-focused and disciplined. The calming presence of Jonas Hiller will power the Flames to a 4-2 victory.

I always hate the first few games.
You're so stoked to have hockey back but its not quite right because they're still trying to get into a rhythm and you cant take anything away from any games because the sample size is so small.
So its pent-up excitement tempered by frustration.

I don't care so much if they win this game (but prefer that they do) but I want to see a much better effort by everyone tonight and at least make it close.

Technically I wrote 'must win game' in the first GDT.

Pulling for Hiller to silence his critics. Short memories how solid he was for the Flames last season and playoffs.
He is not a huge upgrade over Ramo. But personally i think he gives the Flames a better chance most nights.

I have friends that are Canucks fans (don't judge me) and they've already started with the chirping. Need a Flames win tonight to shut them up (lol).

First serious 'must win game' today, then! Both are funny, but only one is intentionally so.

15 teams have played their home openers so far. The home team is 5-9-1 in those 15 games (one of those 5 wins was in OT).
The Flames just need to return the favour to the Canucks tonight.

The Kings are 0-2 and have been outscored 9-2. Do you think they have a problem? Or do you think they will still make the playoffs?
Conversely, if the Nucks win tonight and are 2-0, will you suddenly think they are awesome?
Teams ebb and flow. They go through periods where they look like world beaters, and periods where they can't beat anyone.
But for some reason, when it happens at the beginning of the year, fans over-react.

And one of those games was against the Oilers

Totally agree. Bouma reminds me of Glencross. Excellent energy guy, with a tonne of grit and some scoring touch, but in the end is best served on the third line with second line duties due to injuries.
There is a chance he might break 40 if he ends up on a team that needs some depth up front, but otherwise I think the team, and his game are best served in a defensive, energy type role.

I say the Flames win 4-2 but Hiller lets in the first shot and the debate rages on.

I think chances are high that Hiller is traded. A good performance tonight is more likely to accelerate the process.
I want to see more of what we saw in the first 10 mins of the first from Game 1.

Everyone knows that if you lose the first two games of the season you will go 0-82. It's science.

I am hopeful for the bounce back tonight. I think the effort and structure will be better but it will still be a tight game
