How many people do we have right now and what's the max we can have for a roster?

Better scenario than having one stinking up the joint and having no value.
This is best case if they plan on trying to move a goalie.

The roster max is 23, and that needs to be reached by 3 PM Calgary time on Tuesday.
The Flames have 28 players right now, including three that are injured (Colborne, Brodie, Smid). The injured players won't count towards the roster limit. That takes the number down to 25. This means two cuts need to be made by the Tuesday deadline.
My guess is that Granlund is assigned to Stockton (he's waiver exempt), and that Wilson is not offered a contract. That gets us to 23.

[PGT] Jets 3 Flames 2
So in the post game interview Hartley said they have made their decision on who will be the goalies this season and said it shouldn't be a real surprise. Hmm... But he seemed unsure when asked about running with three goalies. Also looks like Kulak made the team.

Going off what Hartley said i guess the goalies he has chosen are Ramo and Ortio. I don't think Hiller had a full game to himself.

Hiller did get a full game.Just trying to remember if he got two full games.
Not that it matters much but I to nk Ramo/Ortio is a bad idea for a full season.

Didn't know that Hiller had a full game. I have actually now read Hartely's full quote and it was to the question, who will be the starter for the first game of the season?. I'm guessing Ramo because he played in the last pre-season game. Granted i could see any of the 3 starting the season. They all played well and i don't think any one of them was that much better than the other.

Answered: Kulak makes the team.
Unanswered: Goailie, Wilson.
Food for thought: what happens when Colbourne and Brodie come back around the same time? Thats two more roster moves required(assuming nobody else is injured)

1) the goalie situation needs to be answered
2) there will likely be other injuries

Don't feel confident going into the season with Ortio and Ramo. I think it's best, we go in with all three and see who's the most consistent in the beginning of the season.

Even if they go with 3 goalies to start, what do you do - run a 3 goalie rotation until somebody has 1 bad game?

That's the thing.
Is 5 starts each enough to make a decision? 10? 20?
Even 20 starts each isn't much when you think about it. And that is 75% of the season.
At some point you just have to make a decision.
Based on the fact that they didn't add Ortio to the list of waiver names, I take that as meaning that they don't want to expose him to waivers - and it's probably too late now.
In other words, they think he is part of the answer (again, my opinion).
If so, I would think they will be on perpetual find-a-trade-for-one-of-the-other-two mode until they can get this resolved.

I think that's it. No one wants a permanent 3-man rotation. If they start the season with three in Calgary, it's basically saying to Ramo and Hiller, "we're trying to trade one of you".

What would be interesting is if one guy gets really hot and starts to get some interest do you get rid of the the guy that is tearing it up?

Only if that guy is not Ortio or Gillies.
