Fun fact, Nikitin was traded for Kris Russell back in 2011. I like the one we got a lot better.

This will likely be Klefbom's fate in a few years.

The scary part is their other Dmen aren't that much better, hilarious or tragic, I can't tell.

It is likely they would like to waive Ference too, but his NMC prevents it.

Can you please not paint the entire board with the same brush from one quote?

I think you could take any of the Oilers defenders and place them on waivers and not see much more of a reaction from around the league. The Oilers team is a mess and the blueline is the biggest example of how they have mismanaged their assets.

While I agree that Klefbom wont be a buyout candidate at all and will be a decent NHL Dman, Im not sure that you of all people should be talking about "typical CP". You are the most "out to lunch" talent evaluator we have seen on this board since one Chris Lindberg.

The buried amount is $950K, but otherwise you're right.

Ah Lindberg...those were the days. Every second post was a lineup.

This was posted in a Puck Daddy Blog: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-pu...165746324.html

Kris Hansen of Oil On Whyte didn’t mince words:
Whenever Nikitin touched the puck, it was like handling the grenade. Forget any creativity in the offensive zone: as soon as Nikitin would touch the thing, it would be a turnover where he would be losing another foot race.
Nikita Nikitin owes the Edmonton Oilers nine million dollars. How an NHL veteran shows up to camp in the same condition, or even dare I say worse condition, is beyond me. It paints to me, that this is a guy who cashed in his paycheque and he’s set for life. He’s an embarrassment to the logo on the jersey and embodies everything wrong these last few years as an Oilers fan: someone we hoped would actually be a player but turns out to be utter garbage.

Ha Ha...the Bickell for Nikitin deal was only a desperate effort by the 'Hawks to get a shorter, awful contract...I would have expected the same waiver move

Good for them. I hope to see us waiving some deadweight regardless of salary or contract. Not that we have anyone close to Nikitin levels of bad

Really? Even one of my Oiler fan buddies was openly questioning the term/$ of that signing when it was announced.

He may not end up being a bust, but surely it's clear why that contract is a total head scratcher given the body of work. And thus mock-worthy on a rival team's forums.

Im no Oiler fan, but its a gamble and sometimes they pay off.

Roman Josi signed a 28m/7y deal after a pretty meh 2 years, he was considered a dman with unrealized potential, just like Klefbom.

Considering his pedigree, its a reasonable gamble.

The Oilers have plenty of material to mock, the Klefbom contract is not one of them.

Not a high bar, really. There are seven people in this very thread who could probably play superior defence in the NHL.

The 5 Giordanos were in the system long ago. He was never in the system and signed last year.
