Snopes summarizes my thoughts quite nicely, I think the whole thing is a big scam. The two principals are trying to get noticed out of this and that's about it, there won't be an app.

I feel bad for the makers of the internet enabled peephole that you can check from your phone.

I have this great idea for an app. It's a tool you can use to rate and research people in the start-up community and their terrible ideas.

Maybe we can integrate QR codes and augmented reality while we are at it. It's like Yelp plus Facebook for start-ups.

Anyone want to give me 10 million dollars to start it up?

Not sure about that. They used to have all of their investors on the website which have now been removed. And this was in fact known well before this blew up, contrary to what snopes says, so not knowing of it before then doesn't make it fake. I think the creators truly thought this was a good idea and didn't bother to run it through a focus group or anything first.

However, like you, I also don't believe there will be an app, but that will be because of non-approval by Apple or just general failure to make it happen. I think the real scam here was to the people who actually invested money in this venture. I reaaalllly want to know which government gave them $50k and through which program.

I agree that this almost feels like a scam, where they're suckering investors into putting money into the company. The company was never meant to launch, and then the creator pockets the money and investors are left holding the bag.

This whole thing is so bizarre.

On the one hand the whole media blitz and Peeple's reaction to it has a Kaufmanesque quality to it, which sorta plays into the idea that maybe they are just doing its for satire/video hits.

But there's still part of me that thinks there really are horrible people out there with no moral compass that would come up with an app like this, and when faced with such nuclear level criticism would fall back on the old cliches "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.", or "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds" as justification for how genius their idea is.

So it's either brilliant satire/social commentary, or full on dunning kruger effect on display. I'd put "scamming for VC money" pretty low on the list actually, but I could be wrong.

There's no way this company is worth the ~$7mil they state...just another terrible tech evaluation. They also have absolutely hilarious (and probably bogus) investors on their website (forthepeeple.com) however their site seems to be down.
