Yeah, they were super into cats before cats were cool. Frosters were called Slushcats in the 80s.

I have fond memories of buying hundreds of slurpees to get scratch play tickets, furiously trying to get me a pair of Mac's Froster shades.
A friend of mine still has a pair. The original Ray Bans. They're the unicorn of sunglasses I would think.

Really? I've never felt passionately about a convenience store brand before, they all seem basically the same, except slurpees.

The only thing Macs has that 7-11 doesn't is Old Dutch chips. Maybe not the only thing, but the only important thing.

The red cheshire cat and the orange marquee are burned into my childhood memory. I grew up and stopped going to Mac's about when they changed to the Couche-Tard color scheme and the winking owl.
Damn, this is making me nostalgic, I need to print off a Mac's t-shirt for myself to wear. Both the Mac's I frequented growing up seem to be closed.
Does anybody know why the Mac's across from Sir Winston Churchill was closed? The one in Edgemont also shut down as the Petro Canada is getting replaced with a Centex?
That said, Canadians don't realize what a global brand Circle K is. It's on par with 7-Eleven in much of the U.S., Europe, and there are hundreds of Circle K's in Hong Kong and Japan.

Ya, that sucks. Every time I go in to the 7-11 by my place looking for chips, I'm always depressed I have to accept Lays. Especially since the 7-11 showed up and replaced the small local convenience store.

But at 7-Eleven you can cover everything with dispensed cheese, chilli, jalapenos, onions, pickles, peppers, etc. It's not the best stuff for you but it's a good, affordable substitute for dome nachos. That said, I'm frustrated there are so few 7-Eleven's in the city. I also don't get why there are two of them within 2 blocks at 16th Avenue and Edmonton Trail.

Walking home from school, check the phone booth at the Macs for loose change so you can go in to play WWF Superstars arcade machine and rage when you can't find a way to beat Andre the Giant yet again.

I guess there may be some savings in being able to use the same signs and stuff but I'd assume all that gets passed down to the franchise owner anyways.

Isn't Mac's primarily a Western Canada brand? I don't recall seeing them in Eastern Canada.

It's a sad day and brings back fond childhood memories. Jebus bless the enterprising immigrant proprietors of the Woodbine Macs that were willing to sell Hustler magazines to a 12 year-old...
