Red Berenson's all-time favorite story:"Al Arbour used to block shots in glasses with no helmet on and paper for shin pads. What's your excuse?"

I started watching the NHL in 1980. My first NHL memory that has stuck with me is Nystom's tip-in. One of the greatest coaches of all time (2nd?).

There's a great story in one of Don Cherry's books about Al Arbour when he's playing in Rochester: the team was having their christmas party and the Arbours had trouble finding a babysitter. They finally find one after she's convinced that not all hockey players are savages, and Al proceeds to get uncharacteristically drunk at the party, stumbles on the ice in front of his house, smashes his glasses and cuts his face up. He lurches into the house all bloodied up and the poor babysitter runs for her life out of the house.

Al holds the record of coaching 19 straight playoff wins in 1984.
