I could not drive 30+ minutes to and from work every day. You people are crazy.

I'm living in a small rural community in northwestern Ontario with a population less than a thousand people. I work across the street from my house so it takes me longer to put on my shoes than it does to get to work. Sometimes I even go home to use the washroom.

5 minutes door to door. Takes longer to get my coffee. After living Deep South and working downtown for years, I will never go back. Anything over 30-40 mins commute per day is savage and not worth it to me

I used to have a 4 minute walk door-to-door to work and that was awesome, but unsustainable over the term.

With the new cycle tracks, I can go virtually door-to-door completely separated from motor vehicles and pedestrians, so I'm considering getting a bike to reduce my commute time. I enjoy walking, though, and I imagine 25 minutes of walking each way is better exercise than 10 minutes of cycling.

Almost ditto, though I have a daycare dropoff halfway between home and work, so that adds 10 mins onto my on-foot commute. Generally speaking, I walk to work, but we just bought bikes recently and I got a trailer for my daughter, so I've started cycling to work, dropping kid and trailer off at daycare. It does not save me any time, in fact, I think it takes me longer than walking, but I feel like I get a bit more exercise. (I do have to back-track a bit to use the cycle routes). Anytime I contemplate moving into a house (and inevitably moving out of Beltline), it's usually the commute and convenience that clinches our desire to stay in Beltline.

- I drive a car to work and occasionally bike.
- Entirely 4 lane roads, plus a short hop on Deerfoot.
- According to Google Now, my drive to work is 15-18 minutes, and the drive home is 12-15 minutes. If I bike, it's about 40 minutes to work and 50 minutes home.
- I purposely drive off-peak to have a smoother commute, so I'd call it "good" in the sense that I've changed my schedule to make it less "bad".
- ~$500/month (Includes gas, monthly car payments, insurance, maintenance, and parking)
- Who would want to go to Airdrie anyway? I hear there's a valley full of Yankee expats or something just off the highway.

Mine is 18KM from Sage Hill to the industrial park on Mcknight and Deerfoot. Time wise, it really is hit or miss. Some mornings when traffic is awesome, I can get to work in 15 minutes. Realistically, it takes about 20-25min normally. If there's a snow storm or an accident, it has taken me as long as an hour, but those are pretty rare.

15-25 Minutes from Calgary Beltline to Calgary NE depending on construction and/or big commercial vehicles lumbering slowly off the Mem/Deerfoot N ramp. Usually 5 minutes less non-rush hour. Wife walks 10-15 minutes to work.
Same going home. The traffic on memorial is mostly at the Edmonton trail light and the rolling along adds maybe 2-3 minutes at most.
I like my commute. Most of the commute is somewhat counter rush hour traffic.

I actually quite enjoy my drive in to work, especially in the winter when there's hockey talk on the Fan960. My drive coincides with the 8am Flames talk with Wills and the hockey insider segment right after. A lot of times I actually get in before the Duhatchyk segment even ended, so I just sit in my car for another 5 min to finish listening to it before going into the office.

18 minute walk from the door of my condo to sitting my butt down at my cubicle in downtown.
Prior to this job, I drove from downtown to mcknight/barlow area (opposite way traffic) which was approximately 20 minutes each way.

For those who take transit (bus, but also C-Train), does that include walking time (to and from the station)? Waiting for the bus/train?
I used to take the #3 to get downtown. In the morning it was quick and reliable, but after work it was often delayed due to traffic and backups earlier in the route. Drove me nuts -- sometimes I would wait 10-15 minutes just to get on the bus. Now I drive to work -- the distance is only 3.5 km but it still takes around 15 min (as short as 10; with heavier traffic, closer to 20) door to door.

I drive to and from work. It depends on the day though as far as times because I take various routes depending on my mood and things like that. I live in the deep SW and my office is in Bridgeland.
Some days I have my motorcycle and ride out to the ring road and take the long way around to and from work. Sometimes I come up Macleod and Spiller road and the zoo. Sometimes its Deerfoot to Memorial. I like to mix things up and enjoy the commute most of the time. The winter is another story!
If I take the most direct route when I usually make the trip I think its 26 minutes door to door.

usually a 35 minute commute
