Wow. I had no idea that Setoguchi had an issue with the sauce. Thats sad, I hope he turns things around for himself but if all of a sudden he finds that scoring touch I'm going to be choked that he didnt find it while he was a Flame.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
A tanker can't be too careful. The Sabres thought they had McDavid in the bag.
You're never safe as long as the Oilers are in the NHL - a status that should be rescinded if they get one more 1st overall any time in the next 5 years.

This guy looked like the real deal back when he was with SJ - I was shocked that he was already on his way out of the league. Substance issues... that certainly explains a lot. Watch out... this is a guy with a TON of skill. If he pulls it all together, he just might just resurrect his NHL career. Sure hope so...
I guess the question is now that he has gone to rehab and is sober, will that allow him to recover his game?
Think about it, achieve such highs, fall from that high point, start drinking, play worse, drink more, etc.
I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt with this new information coming to light.
You never know, he could end up energized by his sobriety enough to rise above the crushing defeat of marriage and play in the NHL again.
At any rate there is the added bonus that he would have the stability of being in the same city regardless of AHL/NHL play.
I have no idea how he could have even made it through full practices with substance abuse issues. He seemed like he had potential with us but never became an impact player, the idea of doing bag skates and a training camp with those kind of toxins seems impossible especially when he was on a fairly probationary tryout to start with.
With the power of hindsight Setoguchi looked like someone who was playing hungover. I wish him all the best recovering and attempting to rescue his NHL career.
I think this Setoguchi deal is likely going to be a PTO (like Raymond had with the Leafs) if it happens. At this point, who knows if he will make the team if he gets this opportunity. That said, good on him for sobering up & getting married and his video at his wedding was a riot.

mod edit: don't be dumb and speculate about stuff you don't know anything about.
wow. not really called for and why would you even speculate that? I think if it was something like that, it would have been found out earlier and dealt with differently.
Kind of a bs comment

How is speculating about a drinking problem any different? A drug problem is a drug problem and he wouldn't be the first NHLer to go down that route
Either way if he's kicked whatever it was good for him.
Huge difference. I go out for a casual drink, I don't casually use illegal substances. Pretty sure there'd be mention of drugs if it was the case. And he said sober not clean. Just a ad comment.
I hope he does so well that he lifts the leafs to 9th-10th in the east because I still hate the leafs.
