I can only imagine what terror was going through that poor creature's mind as it was aware of what was happening as well as its complete inability to do anything about it.

The people in that country and their behavior are downright abhorrent when it comes to anything to do with animals. No regard for the needless suffering, no compassion. I actually got in debate with an asian who was defending the dog meat festival which was in the news recently, unreal.

First of all, stop taking videos in portrait mode. You don't go to the movies to see them in portrait mode for a reason.
The video is suspicious. What is the green line all across the sharks body and the dark blue colour of the shark's skin, something aren't right.
The shark's move was moving slightly but the tail came off real quick. Looks like the shark had been dead for a while now so its mouth shouldn't be moving.
Then the vast amount of water coming out, I don't know something is weird here.
But then even if it is real, what are you going to do when you caught a shark? Just let it die on dry land isn't anymore humane by my book.

To me it doesn't matter if it's faked or not, Chinese are still crazy MF'ers who could care less what we think. They just don't care!

I've always wondered why China and many Asian nations have such cold disregard to animals and especially the ocean's bounty. Considering how importing fishing is to many of their survival.
Iceland has a university specifically for sustaining our fishing and whaling stocks, and has since the 1950's had strict quotas to protect our stocks, including a fish war with Britain in the 70s when we pushed our maritime boundary to 250km.
Is it cultural, I mean the Japanese are quite brutal when it comes to taking from the sea as much as they can with little regard for the future stocks, and becomes infuriated and nationalistic when anyone attempts to prod them into conservation.

That's absolutely disgusting. The green marks on the side are likely paint or something that rubbed off on th sharks skin (it's lik sandpaper). The "water" is likely a bladder or other organ leaking after being sawn in half. Absolutely disgusting that they couldn't have killed it first.

I ain't a shark hunter, but I reckon there are more humane ways of killing it, besides cutting it in half while alive. Bullet to the brain perhaps.
While not endangered, it is listed as vulnerable, so perhaps they shouldn't ####ing catch the thing in the first place.

Gotta make sure you bring your 5-year-old to see the dismantling of a whale shark! Also love the "Wahhs!"...so Chinese. If you ever get a chance go on a travel group bus with a group of Chinese. They "wahh!" over everything. "Wahh!" look at that tree! "Wahh!" look at that ditch!
But do we know for sure the whale wasn't dead already? Maybe it's mouth moves even after it's dead? Like a spasm? When they show the gills they don't seem to be moving at all.

They're filter feeders who ingest vast amounts of water and then filter out the small fish and krill. Largest mouth of any fish. Their body actually functions as a pump system that can suck water in, unlike most filter feeders who depend on forward movement in the water to pass water through them. I'm not at all surprised that if you cut one in half, large amounts of water gush out.
I'm not sure about the green marks, but given that they're primarily along the raised ridges on the whale shark's side and back, they could have been from any sort of struggle with something painted or dyed... netting, the side of a boat, etc.

Not to say there isn't a better way to do this but when Smeagol bites into a live fish in LOTR, people don't shout animal cruelty. Magnify this to a much larger animal like sharks/whales/dolphins, our perception changes. Maybe it's because we can kind of feel what a shark feel and we couldn't for smaller creatures.
We do a lot of cruel things to animals that we better not see. Those people looked very proficient in carving up the carcass. So I assume a big fish like this is their normal diet.

I don't really think anyone has an issue with them eating it. At least it is going to practical use. I think the issue is, why on gods green earth, would you start from the tail? The humane thing would be to cut off the head first, to end it's suffering as quick as possible, then carve it up.
If this was a video of them carving up an already dead shark, in some ways it would be sorta fascinating to see. But the fact they decided to make the animal suffer through something that is absolutely brutally nightmarish alive, makes these people sick in the head. There was no need to force it to suffer.

Many of the comments in this thread are stereotyping Chinese, or are just plain racist.

First off, it's couldn't care less. Secondly, congrats on painting all Chinese with a broad, racist stroke.

So not one Chinese person in China cares one bit about animals? That's ignorant.

When you cut a whale shark in half, it grows into two whale sharks. They're helping nature.

Good point and true, however firearm ownership for regular joe serfs in China is prohibited.
There has to be a better way however.

It doesn't make it much better, but I think the comments in this thread using the word 'Chinese' are referring to people of Chinese citizenship and not the Chinese race. More of an emphasis on cultural and educational differences.
And perhaps a tolerance for abhorrent behavior towards animals.

Not sure how this is any different from a fisherman fileting a fish that still has its gills flapping. Go into any shack across Canada and that will be the case 50% of the time.

Is that what we're going to do now? "Not every single person, no, no!"
Yeah, let's start every conversation with a disclaimer, still won't change the fact that the majority of these insane animal cruelty stories come out of that country. Same place where they boil dogs alive, skin and torture them because they believe it will make the meat taste better.
Instead of condemning that behavior and bringing attention to what goes on there let's try to shame anyone who is not careful about their language.

Or, here's a thought, you could just leave race/culture out of it and just say "jesus christ that is disgusting, what a horrible person."
Also, lollin at the guy who paid $1000 too much for a Falcon NW laptop just to avoid Chinese parts.
