I think Howard has lost a step lately, but this clip shows why he's still one of the best broadcasters around.

I just assumed everyone on CP listened to 960 and Boomer & Rhett (poor Pinder needs his name in the show) every morning like I do.
And as someone who has openly badmouthed Francis' articles on this board in years past, I gotta admit I actually rather enjoy his segments on 960. He seems much more level-headed when he gets away from the Sun.

Perhaps Bell is going to launch TSN Radio in Calgary. Funny 1060's ratings are laughable and Calgary is the only major market without a TSN Radio station.
I don't know if they'd want to launch without any local broadcast rights, but TSN Edmonton doesn't have the Oilers or Eskimos rights and they seem to do fine.

I suspect this is exactly what it appears to be - that Matt and Eric had decided that to continue working those ungodly hours they needed to be paid a certain amount, one Rogers was unwilling to meet.
When I worked out of that office both guys were always very friendly and treated everyone well. That's not always the case. I wish them both well.

Yeah the worse offenders are the X army hosts. They always make some provocative banters like have you ever cheated on your GF/BF, or make fund of the sex life of the female host. They kept it clean enough so they can skirt the line to be on radio but it's lame by my book.

For some reason that I must not be willing to admit to myself, I actually care where Francis winds up, I guess that will be the end of 960 segments with Kerr. I will admit to enjoying those.
BTW I'm pretty sure it is Brian Seacrest, but it's not worth my time to Google it

Could Francis be switching to a TSN station if they decide to launch in Calgary?

An active search is now underway for a permanent show, and in the interim, JACK Mornings will be hosted by Alex Hindmarch, Kelly Abbott and Donny Richard.

Wait, is this the same Kelly Abbott of Kelowna morning radio in the 90s? I can't remember if she was on Sun FM or Silk FM, but that name certainly sounds familiar. Good for her on moving up in the radio world I guess.
(Shows how much I listen to radio these days!)

Twelve years is a pretty impressive run for a radio show to run, so congratulations to them both. Bumped into Eric once while a friend fangirled hard over him, and he was super nice.
I remember Humble and Fred in Toronto radio moving together as a team for years, so I wonder if Matt and Eric will stay together. It might be tough.

The note from Francis about a confidentiality agreement smacks of early termination and a settlement agreement. Doesn't mean that your suggestion about salary negotiations is wrong, but if their contract came to an end and they couldn't reach a new agreement with Rogers, there likely wouldn't be anything in place that would prevent Matt and Eric from talking about their departure like this save for their professionalism and ethics.
Something similar happened with Bill Simmons and ESPN. His contract is coming to an end soon and ESPN didn't think they would be able to negotiate an extension on terms they could stomach so they pulled the plug early. Adam Carolla was canned from KLSX in LA when the station decided to undergo a format change. He was iced and paid out until the end of his contract, but he wasn't able to fully discuss the circumstances of his departure and accept other employment without jeopardizing his continued payment from his old station.

Just an fyi for those that were wondering, Gerry Forbes confirmed they were let go in an article a few weeks ago.
Basically saying what fredr123 presumed; That they were let go but weren't allowed to talk about it, so Gerry kind of spoke for them in his article and also spoke to the crappy throwaway nature of radio DJ's.
I know it's not the most stable, glamorous job in the world, so I guess some could see it as "who cares, the industry is what it is, don't go into it if you want stability", but it's still pretty crappy because a lot of radio DJ's do it because they truly love what they do.
Yet in that industry it's completely common for management to wake up one morning and go "Yeah, our two morning guys are really good, and yes they depend on this job and have families to feed and bills to pay, but let's just turf them and put someone fresh on, see how it works out".

So as I understand they didnt get 'axed' they just didnt want to be morning show hosts anymore and as such there was no place for them on the schedule at that station?

It certainly doesn't sound that way from the article (I haven't heard it discussed anywhere else). It sounds like the station just decided to go in another direction and let them go.
Where'd you hear they didn't want to be morning hosts anymore or asked for different jobs? Just curious.
