Patrick Marleau as a 34 year old had 70 pts and was on Canada's Olympic team... Last year 56 pts. Having him for 6.6 M really lessens the Sharks chances for the next 2 years.

The Sedins were extended as 31 year olds coming off a almost a Hudler like ppg season in 2012-13 to a 4 year deal @7M last season at age 32.... basically making Vancouver a non-contender until 2018-19.

If Hudler has a great season this year then he might be get 6M for 1 or 2 years. If he tails off to his career average 55 season he would be hard pressed to get his current 4 x 4 .

The Flames management have to be expecting Frolik to take his spot with 50-60 pts and were not able to extend Hudler for 3 years at less than 5.

Signing a 32 year old to a big long term contract is not a risk the Flames need to take.

If Hudler has a great season he is getting more than 1-2 year term on $6 million. He will get a 5 year term from some team and i don't think the flames can give it to him. Also hard pressed to get $4 million if he goes back to 55 point season? If he goes back to 55 point season he will get $5 million easy.

The window for the Flames to have a long playoff run is right now....
I don't think a long playoff run starts this year. Still need a true #1 ( Ortio might be the guy) , need to get bigger, and probably need another top 6 forward.

Out of the 4 players you posted that would not get traded i would say at least one is traded at deadline. I think Jones is all but gone by deadline. Hudler and Russell are the wild cards. If neither are signed by deadline i have to think the flames trade at least one of them away. As for Wideman i think this will be his last full year as a flame. I could see them trading him away in the summer or deadline of 2017.

Hope it would not be on the Flames.

How fast did the wheels fall off the Glencross money train?

Wiess a consistent 55-60pt center just got bought out of a 4.9M 5 year deal signed as a 30 year old in 2013. Hudler and Wiess have very similar career number and Wiess is 1 year older

Like I was saying.
