mark me down for the lower numbers as well. I could be convinced to do a double number (55, 77 etc) but I prefer the lower #s.
A guy like Jagr and the reason he has 68 would work for me as well

The lower number thing seems like an old grumpy man kind of thing. "Back in my day…"
High numbers are an issue only if you make it an issue. Let the players have choice of all numbers and then all of a sudden its not issue if you are wearing 81 instead of 18.

Anything in the 50's, 60's, or 70's looks awful to me. 40's look weird too, but not as bad. 66 and 77 are the only exception, IMO.

If I recall, I watched one of Sam Bennetts interviews and he confirmed that Burke has changed the policy to under 40.

meh. There was a time when high numbers were reserved for elite talent but that line has been crossed so far and so long ago it's lost any such status. Also, the game has changed so much and rosters are constantly changing, keeping low numbers becomes that much more difficult. I say let them wear what they want.

If Jooris and Ferland want to keep 86 and 79, I let them do it. It's not like they picked those numbers to start with -- they inherited them and made them their own.
Hamilton can have 27. Bennett can keep 63 or give him 39. Not sure what's left over for Frolik though. Is there a reason why he picked 67?

I'd like to see:
Bouma 10 (from 17)
Hamilton 27
Frolik 17
Bennett 39
Jooris 16 (21 if we dump Raymond)
Ferland 20

It was a pretty dumb idea but when you are trying to build a locker room back from the ground up, it's nice to institute a team first culture. I don't know how long that needs to stick around for, but it can help gel a team I suppose.........

It's old school and it's another reward for a prospect as he gets a NHL number. Not many still recognize that in this era of everyone being a wannabe superstar with a superstar's number. What makes it a little impracticable these days is the retired numbers that teams have so an increase to say 40 or 50 numbers is probably needed.

he cant still have bad ideas?
One example of a good hire doesn't make him immune to bad ideas??
Anyway.... the jersey number limit only hurts us as a team. If there are positives (i.e. team discipline), I would like to hear them from his perspective as it seems like a ego thing to me.
Top pick of destination for free agents who aren't at all attached to their number. May only hurt our chances with a few players a decade... but why risk it?

To me the whole "congrats you've made the NHL team" aspect of it has proven so far to be a crock. That message should sink in for the player when Brad Treliving tells them to start looking for their own place.

If a player doesn't want to sign because they can't have their high number then why would the Flames want a selfish player like that? I think you're just proving that Burke's idea works. It filters out the me first type players.

If this contributed only 1% of the 180 turn around from the entitlement that was the Flames (imo) to the team chemistry/attitude/philosophy within the room now, it was brilliantly well played by Burke.

I'd like Frolik to wear 37. Ferland can wear 10 if Bouma keeps 17.
