Not sure it is the homerun some here seem to think it is.

Oshie is capable of highs but is injury prone and I think probably a difficult personality to manage.

St. Louis obviously didn't think he was going to help them climb the mountain after years of experience with him.

Brouwer is a good player in his own right.

Good trade for both teams.

NHL trades fascinate me...... How many teams out there would scream "we'd beat that!!" for what #Caps paid for Oshie.

So much this. Same thing with the Hamilton trade.

I would have done something similar for Oshie (although don't think we have a player similar to Brouwer. )

Also doubt St.Louis wanted to trade him in the west.

I feel bad for this Copley guy. His parents name him Phoenix and don't even spell it right. Pheonix Copley.

Don't forget all-star RW Alex Ovechkin.

Thought I read yesterday they are going to put Williams on Ovechkin and Backstrom's line.

Caps lose grit here. Brouwer is far "grittier" than Oshie. Oshie isnt a gritty player at all.

Based on their Hero Charts (which doesn't tell the whole story) this is a huge win for the Capitals.

Oshie:

Brouwer:

Neither have been good playoff performers (both have actually been pretty disappointing).

Brouwer might be better suited to a 3rd line role than Oshie though, and might be a tad better defensively.

I think he prefers to be on his off wing. Plays both sides effectively.

Brouwer has missed 8 games total in the past 6 seasons since becoming a full time NHLer, that is pretty impressive. Career 0.48 PPG average... not exactly a throw in type player. I think this is a pretty even deal for both sides.

Maybe at best they even out, but Oshie can combine his sandpaper with his skill and be more effective in that role.

Oshie is the better player and his cap hit is only $500,000 higher. Has an extra year on his contract.

I think the trade only makes sense through the lens of "trying to change the mix" in the dressing room.

I'm not convinced that "the right mix" is a real thing, so I'd have kept the better player if I were St.Louis.

I agree. I have always thought Oshie is over-rated.

He is a good player and I think the Caps did well, but it isn't all that crazy.

People love the youtube highlight champs though.
