I love Glencross. I love Scoreface.

It's hard for me to say, because personally, the grass has always been greener on the other side, BUT I hope Glencross learned that THE GRASS ISNT ALWAYS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE.

Some embarrassing posts in this thread, I mean really, show some class.

Agree or not, the guy was underpaid on his last contract and wanted to be here. He's gone now, no need to drag his name through the mud. You'd think it was personal with some of you.

If his play didn't drop off he'd be a highly sought commodity today.

I'll say he lands in Phoenix, 2 year deal.

Well, it's sad for him if he cannot find another NHL gig basically just because of rotten play in the second half of last season. I'd like to think Glencross is really not as bad right now as he looked with the Caps. Maybe he just wasn't a good fit with the Caps. Then again, maybe father time has hit him hard. Who knows.

Not everybody can play at a high level till they're 35-40. Tough luck if time has caught up to him that much already. We'll see. I hope it hasn't.

There is so much to like about Glenny during his time here. Sticking it to the Oil, signing an under market value deal, tremendous community involvement, loved being a Flame etc. I'm not going to lie, his effort level sometimes wasn't there and in the end it was probably best for the Flames to part when they did but how could you not like Glencross during his time here? I hope he gets a deal for decent $ with a team he can make solid contributions for.

with him saying "no hometown discount this time" and the fact he thought he deserved a bigger role on the team (despite not earning it this year) I think fans finding it a little comical that he is in this situation is pretty warranted.

Guy is a professional athlete after all don't be so sensitive...he has millions of dollars he made playing a kids game he will likely be okay

You have to watch players like that. If they only play 60 games a year and are 32 or 33 and want longterm big dollars well into their late 30's or 40's it is time to trade them.

That being said you can still be thankful for what they did when they were here. Glencross was a very good Flame who put up great numbers on a very serviceable contract.

I wasn't aware he publicly stated he deserved/expected an expanded role.. If that's the case, he's out to lunch with the culture we've got brewing.

As far as saying he wasn't looking to take a hometown discount this time around, is that really something to sewer a guy for? He played out a contract described nearly unanimously by this site/the hockey world in general as one of the best value deals of its time, with no public complaints (that I'm aware of). He didn't come out and demand an extra 1.5 or 2 million per tacked on for years he felt he over performed his contract, with a PowerPoint presentation attached to back his case.

Dunno how running a guy out of town like that is viewed by players around the league.. Don't know about you, but I'm hoping by this time next year we have 5+ freshly inked contracts we will look at by their midpoint as total steals, and I'd rather not have this fan base pick up the same perceived quirk the Bruins were recently tagged with (running guys out of town for expecting a fair payday when it's earned).

The Flames had some awesome breakouts this past season, and unfortunately for Curtis the wheels fell off at the wrong time and he was a casualty. Who knows why his season ended he way it did in Washington.. I'm doubtful it's because he's past his expiry date. I'm sure he finds a home somewhere once the dust clears.

Tl;dr-- Glennie was good for us, and I hope he has a chance to be good somewhere else.

Guy was a lazy plug who complained a lot. No teams will be rushing out to sign this guy and that was evident today.

His entire stint with the caps was a summary of his entire career really and then add that he couldn't stay healthy.

But yup... Thanks for the great effort and years Curtis!!... Please...

.
Half of his game was based on speed, which generated chances on the break out and forecheck. Once he lost his footing he looked lazy, but he simply couldn't keep up, which I think frustrated him. He tried to compensate by playing a finesse game instead, that was not his game.

Still don't blame him, 20-25 goal scorer who played PK and tough minutes for 2.5M. Come on, that is a sweet deal. Also got us 2 second rounders, even sweeter.

No hard feelings, wish him the best. Wouldn't be surprised to see him sign a show me 1-year contract with Anaheim or another contender. He'd look pretty good on the left side with Perry and Getzlaf (everybody does) if he can find his old game.

Glencross was turning into Bourque 2.0 at the time we traded him. Streaky, lazy at times and made boneheaded plays. He did play fantastic during those 24 and 26 goal seasons and was on one of the absolute best contracts in the league at that time, but that was already quite a few years ago. He was also very injury prone.

As for being a 20-25 goal guy, those two great seasons were the only times he put up 20 or more

He seems to have really hurt his position with his play last year and im surprised by it.
He'll sign for a decent salary before the season starts. I wonder if Pittsburgh is a good fit? They could use another winger.

I heard at the Orange Julius that he was a huge locker room cancer though.

Glencross wouldn't sign with Calgary because he was expecting a big UFA payday.

Got dealt to a contending team and was unceremoniously scratched during the playoffs.

Not a peep on UFA day 1.

Not exactly his big free agent payday like he was probably expectatingthis time last year.

Unfortunate for him he had his worst season in recent history leading up to free agency. I imagine he's had some offers and they are either of the one year variety or multi-year deals that aren't of the salary he probably envisioned receiving 12 months ago. He will find work as he's still a useful player.

I think the problem with Glencross is that he was gifted a top 6 role with the Flames and isn't really a top 6 player and going to a team like the Capitals where he was playing a smaller role he probably needed to up his intensity level. He's always been a streaky player and when he's not on his game he's a non-factor and being a non-factor in a bottom 6 role means you are likely going to see time in the press box. He's going to have to get back the same urgency in his play he showed when he was a bottom 6 player with the Oilers, Jackets, and Flames (initially).

I say he signs a 1 year, 2million dollar contract with the Kings.
