There's no way half of the things this guy says are real. He has to be joking, right?
He's courting the right wing fringe of the GOP. He's also doing it in easy to manage sound bites because the voting populace in the states is extremely uneducated when it comes to platforms and positions and even how the government works (or doesn't). It's frightening. But he is a "TV star" using peoples limited attention span to his own purpose.
There are enough people in the GOP ranks that get off on what he says and in particular with the Tea Party members. Not a bad strategy as it is this fringe that has called the shots the last two GOP nominations. If he continues to have "success" it'll end up pulling the other candidates to the right. Which will be fun to watch. Few American politicians that run for nomination do so by sticking to their core beliefs. They go the way the wind takes them and it's fun to watch these guys change their positions etc. It's also depressing that rarely do you see someone with true integrity.
Bernie Sanders might be that guy and he drew a huge crowd the other day. But he doesn't stand a chance in the end. Sanders as the Dmocratic nomination would be a straight path to GOP victory. And that would suck.

Just for curiosity... what is it that would suck about having a Republican over Democrat?
Because in my view the GOP is being run by the right wing. A center-right candidate can not actually win the nomination unless they do what McCann and Romney did and capitulate to the Tea Party. It's why they had Palin and Ryan as running mates.
The Tea Party having any sort of greater control than they already have will be a complete disaster for anyone who isn't among the overused term "1%". Their beliefs are scary to me economically. Even worse is they have absolutely NO ability to leave their religion out of things. No ability whatsoever. They don't care about what is right or fair or the greater good. They care about what makes them personally better off. And that is a horrible direction to continue to go down.
Unemployment hit a 7 year low in the June numbers just announced.
He didn't call all Mexicans rapists. The only part he got wrong is where he is implying the country itself is sending these people. People are leaving Mexico on their own accord.
Dude...
"When Mexico sends its people they're not sending their best ... They're sending people that have lots of problems ... They are bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists."
Unless any of those get qualified with (at the very, very, very least) the word "some", yes, he called all the people coming from Mexico rapists (among other things).

Don't misquote him. You cut off the part where he qualified himself as not a racist.
They are bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists and some, I assume, are good people.
He has never met a Mexican immigrant who isn't a criminal but he is open to the idea that "statistically speaking" some of them are probably good people.

He's just made another statement that Mexicans are bringing tremendous infectious disease to America... and then qualified it by saying that many fabulous people are from Mexico. He's tried to put the focus onto the Mexican government and away from labelling Mexicans in general but he still mentions the drugs, murders, rapes, and disease.
"What can be simpler or more accurately stated? The Mexican Government is forcing their most unwanted people into the United States. They are, in many cases, criminals, drug dealers, rapists, etc. This was evident just this week when, as an example, a young woman in San Francisco was viciously killed by a 5 time deported Mexican with a long criminal record, who was forced back into the United States because they didn’t want him in Mexico. This is merely one of thousands of similar incidents throughout the United States. In other words, the worst elements in Mexico are being pushed into the United States by the Mexican
government. The largest suppliers of heroin, cocaine and other illicit drugs are Mexican cartels that arrange to have Mexican immigrants trying to cross the borders and smuggle in the drugs. The Border Patrol knows this. Likewise, tremendous infectious disease is pouring across the border. The United States has become a dumping ground for Mexico and, in fact, for many other parts of the world. On the other hand, many fabulous people come in from Mexico and our country is better for it. But these people are here legally, and are severely hurt by those coming in illegally. I am proud to say that I know many hard working Mexicans—many of them are working for and with me…and, just like our country, my organization is better for it."

"After announcing my candidacy, I decided to see if I could, in fact, find SOME that are good people. Low and behold, I found them in my kitchen, in my yard, and in my car. They were cooking, maintaining my green spaces, and parking my Bentley. I decided to do these people a solid by incentivizing them to do better for themselves and for this country. This incentive came in the form of wage cuts. I realized they were being wildly overpaid compared to what they would be receiving in their homeland, so I dropped it to Mexican market rates.
...Excuse me, I think I had some bad chicken tacos last night..."
The notion that this guy will surge in the polls and contend for the Republican nomination is so symbolic of what is exactly wrong with the United States today, and Americans aren't educated to even understand why this is a problem, or how to stop it.

I think it's derogatory to call Americans uneducated and unable to understand concepts, especially when those are simply different opinions from your own. Childish name calling essentially.
You are right though, he has surged ahead in recent polls.
Donald Trump's position on immigration does not seem to be hurting the real-estate developer's standing in the Republican presidential primary.
Two new polls have him in first place among registered Republican voters.
The latest poll arrived Thursday. In the Economist/YouGov poll, Trump holds 15% of the Republican vote nationally — ahead of former Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida (11%).
The good news for Trump doesn't stop there.
"Trump looks even better as a candidate this week when Republicans are asked for their second choice," YouGov's Kathy Frankovic wrote along with the results. "When they are, Trump extends his lead. One in four Republicans who are registered to vote say he is their first or second choice."
A new Public Policy Polling survey of North Carolina published Wednesday also placed Trump ahead of the GOP pack. In that poll, Trump led Bush 16% to 12%.
"Trump's favorability rating in North Carolina is 55/32, much higher than we were finding in national polls prior to his entry into the race," PPP director Tom Jensen said. "Trump's really caught fire with voters on the far right — 66% of 'very conservative' voters see him favorably to only 24% with a negative view of him."

its becoming pretty well documented that quite regularly americans vote against their own best interests. for example all the red states that claim to be against federal money taking a disproportional amount in aid.
The fact that Trump is second in the Repub polling goes to show what many of us have been saying for a long time. There are many ignorant, racist, and wealthy out of touch voters in that party. Sympathizers always like to say its a small percentage, but numbers don't lie. It's looking like it's around 12 percent.

They bring drugs, they're rapists... and I'm sure some of them are very nice people.
He stated he believes there are more Mexicans of ill intent or character than good ones. Plain and simple.
And I'm sure, some of them are nice people.
Dude. He's a racist and you've outed yourself as one too.
BTW, there's nothing wrong with being tough on illegal immigration. But his big idea into forcing Mexico to build a fence shows he knows nothing about politics or immigration. Even O'Reilly had a field day with him and you know Faux News was lobbing softballs. Plus his statements, which have no bearing in stats or facts, show he's pretty damn racist.
I'm beginning to wonder if he actually knows anything about business, other than being a bully.
