I found that odd too. Has had a decent impact in FLA I thought.

Why do people want to see this guy on the flames? We could sign him for league minimum on a one year deal and I still wouldn't like it.

One year deal could be worth it. If he works out awesome. If he doesn't then sit him or put him in the AHL. Also good option for deadline deal if he has a decent season.

Id rather have Boyes than Semin.
Or do you get Semin by default when you have Boyes?...

He is the only potential top line RW available that once scored 40 goals on the UFA market. I understand why some fans would want to try him out on a 1 year deal.
But I agree with you would not be happy to see him in Flames silks.

Good think the Canes fired the GM that handed out that horrendous contract. Bad news for Penguins fans that he's working for their team.

He is a strong possession driving right handed right wing who used to be a 40 goal scorer.
Not sayin he doesn't have issues, but Brad T does like reclamation projects, as he showed with Setoguchi last year.

To be honest I don't even think he has top line potential anymore. His lack of dedication is the main thing, but even his hands and skills have slowed down with his age. Not interested at all.

Would not be surprised to see the Pens throw a cheap contract at Semin. But most likely he heads back to the Motherland.

Everyone wanted the Flames to grab a top 6 right-shooting RW. Semin has the skill set to be just that. Sure he has issues, but a one year reclamation project won't be too difficult for the Flames to take on.

That Semin contract was brutal the day it was signed.
Type of guy that needs to be on a one way deal to be motivated.
Would have no issue giving him a one year deal for around $3 million but we have a logjam at forward as it is.

Personally, I don't see why we would go after Semin vs Boyes. Point totals have been close over the last few years. Boyes is a couple years older, but if we're talking a 1-year, that makes no difference. By all account Boyes was a good addition for a young FLA squad. He's a right shot. Doesn't have the disciplinary issues that Semin does. Would likely be cheaper.
I say give Boyes 1-year to play on the right side. At best, someone like Poirier beats him out, at worst, you have a capable right-handed veteran forward.

I'm sure the Pens will inquire. Could be a decent option for Crosby if they can't find anything else.
Boyes wouldn't be a bad pick up either as long as term was short.

Semin should be a penguin tomorrow. Probably the first signing of the day.

heard Pitts/NJ/Montreal are the teams that make the most sense for Semin

Don't know why but i think Semin would be a good fit on our 2nd line. All of the Canes sucked last season, so not much of a reflection on him personally. Could be worth a one year contract but I certainly don't see him going back to Russia, someone will sign him.

I would love to have Alex on the Flames. To me though, as an FA he's going to choose somewhere else. Pittsburgh is right in his wheelhouse. Playing alongside commrade Malkin would be a high priority for him. I cannot argue with that either as Malkin would probably be best for his career.

Didn't he not get along with Crosby though.
Thought he made some comments about him in the media.
Also with Rutherford as GM there now he might want to stay far far away from Semin after this contract debacle.
