I don't disagree about his credentials, and it's nice to have coverage of non-hockey news (especially if it's international level stuff)...but 90% of the time it comes down to talking about the Blue Jays or some CFL ownership issue.

When Duhatschek or Friedman come on, I turn up the radio. When Brunt comes on, I tend to zone out.

I always wondered if he got paid for the radio hits, or if it was required part of being in the Sportsnet family.

Maybe Jiri knows the answer to this - are other guests (not Sportsnet) paid for appearing? Or do they at least get a gift certificate at Schanks?

They are not paid in most instances, and they are not obligated to do the segments in most cases as well. Friedman had it specifically written into his contract that he was not required to do them if he so chose.

I don't blame him if he stops either. Just not worth the aggravation at times.

Also if this happens, look for others to follow. Including Duha, Kypreos and others.

Well it's not the Flames 960. It's a sports radio station and I get that some of you only care about the Flames but lots of listeners follow other sports.

Nobody said we should get rid of him, I just said for me he was pretty take it or leave it.

Just like I understand that there's a reason why they play Jays baseball on the Fan...but as soon as it comes on, I turn my radio off.

That's a shame, I love Friedman on there. He usually has lots of little nuggets too. I remember a week or two ago when discussing what Treliving would do leading into the draft, he hit Boomer & Pinder with so much inside info they were floored after the call was done.

I don't blame him if he wants to stop, as he mentioned on the morning show the other day that he "always gets in trouble when I come on this station". That would be a crappy feeling to be dreading putting your foot in your mouth and potentially hurting your career every time you have to do a radio hit.

Hopefully he keeps doing them, He seems like a genuine, down to earth dude, and has a really good pulse on the Flames, especially for an Eastern guy.

I'd love to get him on Fireside Chat.

And those Philistines should be burned at the stake so the rest of us can enjoy exclusively hockey-based radio. Whats wrong with that?

In Toronto, where you have both SN and TSN radio it's brutal. When the leafs are terrible (always) SN only ever talks baseball and TSN only talks basketball unless there's something about the Leafs. Then both stations beat the topic to death about why some poor ontario kid should come play for Toronto or why they deserve a second team, and then they go back to baseball/basketball without discussing any other news/teams.

I miss Fan 960

Sorry, I like Sportsnet, and all of its faults. They cater to me, a Flames fan. TSN had years and years and years of opportunity to do the same and never did.

If Elliot Freidman decides to stop his radio spots, and others do the same. The Fan 960 will definitely be less entertaining and informative. Not a good thing!

If there's less Duha and Friedman then there will be more time for Boomer to laugh at fart noises, and I'm just not sure I can handle that.

Although this is a Freidman radio thread, Friedman is basically the only redeeming quality Sportsnet has on the TV panel, as well as Hrudey. Kypreos is vastly improved.

But if Frieds wasn't a regular on the panel, God help hockey broadcasts.

Certain guys have hits written in their contract. Others are paid on a hit by hit basis.

Duhatschek is worth listening too also.
