#Flames 7th round pick Riley Bruce, a 6-foot-6 D-man, gives Calgary the ability to get a bulk discount when ordering gear for Keegan Kanzig.

Fan 960 says he is a young 18 or even 17 years old.
I don't have a problem taking a flyer on a guy who might be a few weeks from not having been eligible for the draft.
So he's a project. Ok. Give him a session with the team to let him know his training and development and let him go for a few years to see what he can do. No rush. Low risk, moderate upside.

HockeyProspect.com's Mark Edwards to me just now
"Mark Edwards @MarkEdwardsHP 1m1 minute ago
@ChrisRalphTHW very raw. Plays a safe game. He's a flier pick because of size/upsize."

That scouting report forgot to mention his clutch ability.
1 goal in his OHL career. Came only in the playoffs - he scores when it matters.

Interview
Very excited to be part of the future of the organization
Had no idea Calgary was interested
No discussions with Calgary over the season
Filled out a form online and that's it
Flames had been out to watch him a bunch of times
Thinks of himself as a defensive defenceman. Stay at home d
Concentrates and making a good first pass
started as a 16 year old in the OHL. 2 seasons there now
First year was getting his feet under him, second year took some steps forward. More opportunity and opportunity to play in different situations
(Very well spoken kid. Might be best interview i've heard in a long time from a draft eligible player)
Coaching staff is amazing. Team plays defence first and helps his style.
What do you know about the City, the organization? Not too much. Follow the flames throughout the year (cough), watch the games. Great organization and that his style of play will fit well with the Flames style
Who I model my game after the most would be Marc Methot. That model of play is what I see myself as.
Was watching with his family when he got the call.
Again, wow, really well spoken. Kid didn't know anything about the team or the city though.
I like that he played in the OHL as a 16 year old. I think it will be interesting to watch if he can toss some weight on over the offseason and work on his skating.

On the bright side, he has a 12% chance of making the NHL according to the projection project. The most successful players of which he gets a comparable were Mark Streit(?), Marek Zidlicky(?), and Shea Weber. Other successful comparables include Smid, Franson, and Engelland.

I like this type of pick for a 7th rounder. A project for sure but what's the hurry
