There's something about Hamilton that is bothering me. Is he that good, or just all hype? He's played with some damn good defensemen and has not really stepped up to the level you expect. He hasn't impressed as much as guys like Ekblad or Jones, or even our own TJ Brodie. If you're going to burn that many assets to acquire the guy, then blow that much cap space to sign him long term, you better be sure that he is going to be that number one defenseman you hope him to be. He may have the tools to get there, but does he have the tool box? I'm not so sure. You use that much capital to get Hamilton, and he Bouwmeesters, then you're back in the dark ages. Tough decision.

Oilers have the assets to make it happen.

One of RNH, Hall, Eberle, Yak, Draisatl

Plus

One of Nurse or Klefbom

Plus

The 16th overall.

Flames can't do anything like that.

I can't see them giving up Nurse. But you're right, they're a perfect trading partner, although cap space moving forward will be a problem for Edmonton. If Hamilton signs a bridge deal it works.

I don't think we have the assets to acquire Hamilton unfortunately. I doubt Bostot wants Gio and we can't afford to give up 1 of our 4 cores (jg, sm, sb, tjb)

Hall could get Hamilton straight up.

Jeezus they're not trading for Bobby Orr here

Wonder if Edmonton tries to land Lucic and Dougie?

You can argue that the Bruins would have to sweeten their side of the offer as Hall is a proven scorer while Hamilton isn't an elite defenseman presently.

I think they most certainly would have to add, yes. I'm not sure the Bruins need a winger more than a D...could be a good trade for EDM, though

If this is true I sure wouldn't be surprised to see a blockbuster happen between Edmonton and Boston. Possibly see it involving either Kreijci or Lucic as well.

As for the Flames, IMO Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett and Brodie need to be off the table, but ADDING Hamilton to those 4 building blocks would be pretty awesome.

Edmonton is the obvious choice and they have the assets to land him as well. It will be a massive deal for sure. As for the Flames I don't think we have what it takes to land him unless we are willing to give up a first, second, roster player and a prospect.

They can't resign Hamilton, yet you're all saying they would take Hall in a trade with his big contract?

I'm not sure what Dougie Hamilton you guys are talking about, but as a six foot five 21 year dman he:

- had 42 points
- lead the Bruins D in scoring
- Almost doubled his point total from a year ago
- Is still learning the game

I'm not sure what more you expect out of the guy before realizing he could (and probably will) be the next Chris Pronger. This guy is a stud. You watch him and he was probably Boston's best dman last year as a 21 year old. It was not Boston's other D making him look good, it went both ways.

Hamilton is exactly the player the Flames should be targeting. However, the assets they will want are not the ones Calgary should be giving up.

According to that RFA compensation sheet - given that Hamilton is truly wanting about $7 million per - it would require at least a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick. I'm assuming that would have to be all in the same year.

If you could do that for 2016, is Hamilton worth that? Is it a worthwhile move for Calgary?

I just don't think much of the Oilers wonder boy forwards. I think all of them will see their numbers dips this year as it will take at least half a year for Mc@ellan or any coach they get traded to to tear down and reconstruct their game to one that fits within a team concept. Much like how Iggy's numbers dropped after Sutter took over.

For that reason, I think a discount has to be applied to Hall and Eberle especially. Maybe not so much RNH.

I think it's worth those 3 picks for CGY

Yeah, none of the 6x6ers make any sense. I think the Bruins would want a D coming back, so that might be Nurse or Klefbom. Based on the RFA compensation, the Oilers would need to add. Perhaps the #16, perhaps another cheaper asset (Yakupov?)

Edmonton cant afford to throw money around like this either technically, 2 years from now they'll have their own RFA problems, so unless they offload some pricey core players I don't see it as a great fit long term.

Flames probably cant make it happen either sadly
