Isn't this just a part of the process with all players with NTC? Submit a list once a year type thing?

I'm not suggesting that the Leafs aren't shopping him. Just wondering what him submitting a list actually means.

Kessel the contract is terrible.

Kessel the player would be an amazing addition to the Flames.

So good for the Flames for not wanting that anchor of a contract.

I'm more shocked that he would give the province of Quebec about $400k a year in extra taxes. maybe he didn't think of that!

Small price to pay for real smoked meat sandwiches and poutine.

No. Typically a player submits a list of teams he is willing to be traded to if he requests a trade, or if management requests him to and he obliges.

I was just talking to a leafs fan (I don't know why I put myself through that) and he was saying that a package of Monahan and Gudreau for Kessel would be a steal for the Flames. I honestly can't wait for him to be traded to hear the response from some leaf fans. With Kessel giving a limited list of teams he'd go to and his horrible contract, the leafs will have a hard time giving him away let alone getting a good return. I'm thinking Hudler gets a better return then Kesel does.

Renaud Lavoie said Kessel to Montreal would be unlikely:

From my #jdm story today, you can forget Phil Kessel with the Canadiens. Chances are slim to none the Canadiens will take that road.

Would take JVR or Morgan Reilly.

JVR would be an amazing fit. More so than any other player we here at CP have been bantering about. More than Lucic, Kessel, O'Reilly etc etc.

I'd pay a good price for that kid if I were the Flames GM. Wonder what it is.

LOL. You're delusional.

Question. How much should Phil Kessel be getting given he's been UFA eligible and put up the stats he has?

Phil Kessel will bring back a first rounder+ a nice prospect easy.

And those teams mean little. If the Leafs present him with a chance to go elsewhere, like say in Florida, it does not mean he says no.

A guy who can get PPG with Boxak as his centre in this era will not have to be "Given Away".

Thanks for clarifying that for me. I read it as though he just wanted the team gone from the face of the Earth.

Is he though? The dollars may not hamper a team to acquire him at a good price but the term is detrimental to a premium return. Add to that the limited amount of teams the Leafs management team can negotiate with, it will affect the return.

No one is saying Kessel is a bad player. But every team is hesitant on trading for him because they don't know if he'll be putting up elite numbers on the 2nd half of his contract. If his term was 2-3 years less, he'd easily be fetching 2 1sts and a good prospect.

Correct me if I am wrong, but has anybody reported on a team that actually wants to trade for Kessel? I do not remember reading anything. Seems like more teams want Phaneuf

I can't see teams lining up to spend 8 million on a winger

To me that list screams "I don't want to be traded". All of those teams have cap issues and can't take on Kessel

No one worries about that for other 27 year-olds. He hasn't missed a game in 6 years.

I dunno, 25 goals isn't that great. -34 sucks. And does $8M per season until 2022 count as a stat?
