Really curious as to whether or not Hunter Smith will turn pro or not.
This would suggest no, but we will see I guess.
RW Depth on the farm at this point.
Poirier (ELC)
Hathaway (ELC)
Carroll (ELC)
Marcotte (AHL)
|
I have a feeling Carroll will be spending the first half of the season in the ECHL at least.
I'm also expecting either Poirier or Hathaway to make the opening day NHL roster. Maybe the Flames management feel the same and want added RW depth.
Loving what management has been doing the last few years (Feaster included). We used to be low on Center prospects, but now we have more than enough. Then we were low on RW talent, but now it's starting to fill up quite nicely. I was going to say we're now low on D-Prospects, but I think we have a couple under the radar bottom-4 D-prospects that will make the NHL in the next couple years (Culkin, Hickey).

According to the tweet from Gatineau Olympiques he signed with the farm team of the Calgary Flames. Assuming that means AHL deal only.

Yes, they are usually among the first cuts when the AHL training camps start a week later.
Marcotte will most definitely play in Penticton barring injuries.

Worth a look, and, if nothing else, a decent AHL replacement when Poirier comes up (hopefully) full time.

What do you mean unusual? I don't know why but I find this hilarious....Am I tired?

Lots of bodies in Stockton, which is a good thing I guess.
Potential lineup:
Reinhart-Granlund-Poirier
Klimchuk-Arnold-Hathaway
Wolf-Agostino-Marcotte
Van Brabant-Elson-Carroll
Hanowski
Of course many of these guys are still unsigned, and some might make the big club.

Being a tad bit optimistic. How about letting him earn at least a NHL contract first before even thinking about him replacing anyone in the NHL?
It is a low risk signing, but he could be the next Bryan Cameron.
Difference this time is that Cameron was signed to a 3 year ELC, most of which he spent in the ECHL.
At least with Marcotte, they can cut ties with him after a year if he looks like a bust.

His numbers sure did take a hit without Mantha last season.
Still decent numbers, but nothing overly impressive for an overager.

Guys like this are always interesting ... productive but not seen as NHL hockey players. OK to take a flier on them as they may start progressing at the pro level (better fit, better coaching, lifestyle, fitness, systems), but for the most part 30 teams' scout sets don't get it wrong and they fizzle out.
Cameron (think his name was Cameron) a few years ago was another example. Oiler fans are always clamouring about guys like this and they never pan.

I should have clarified I didn't mean right away, however with Poirier hopefully pushing for a 1or 2 RW spot with his offensive numbers im asking if there is that potential in a year or 2? Hudler is UFA after this year so we need at lease 1 RW to fill that spot as I doubt the Flames will give him a big UFA contract
his numbers show he has offensive upside, playing with Monahan and Gaudreau he just needs to be able to keep up.
I know they aren't Crosby but Kunitz is proof that a potential 3rd line player that can finish could flourish with highly skilled linemates

Perhaps remarkable would have been a better word.
In this forum there's a tendency to call players who are 6'1' or 6'2" "big" players. I just don't find that height impressive in today's NHL (not like when Messier was considered a big player and Joel Otto was a monster towering over him). 6'1" is pretty middle of the road to me.
I like his weight at his age though. I have noticed that players with a bit more heft like Ferland play bigger than taller guys with less poundage.

Yeah Bryan Cameron.
Had a great shot but that was it.
But yeah I agree - take a flyer on one or two of these guys - no more

Well he is signed to an AHL deal, so there is no risk, he does not count towards the 50 contracts and is a likely candidate to be pushed down the depth chart by guys on two way NHL contracts. The Flames will get a first hand look/ see, and determine after next season if he is a legit NHL prospect. There are dozens of junior scoring stars filling up and CIS, ECHL and AHL rosters.

Main thing I get out of this signing is it looks like the Flames have been scouting the Gatineau Olympique. Their Ottawa scout probably has a big voice after the Monahan and Poirier selections.
Could Yakov Trenin be one of the potential 2nd rounder selections? Big centreman who put up good points.

The Flames also need to stock their ECHL team in Adirondack. Getting young players along these lines could pay off in the future. I think more AHL contracts will be handed out with some players going to Adirondack.

Except for some PP duty he didn't play with Mantha in Val d'Or Foreurs
And he played on a depleted Gatineau last year but still lead the team in goals(+14)/points(+9) he was their offence!
Those asking why he was overlooked at the draft, I'm told his skating was suspect when he was with PEI and played threw a groin or hip injury in his draft year. apparently he has since improved his skating leaps and bounds.

Not so sure I buy that. Looking at the game by game stats, Mantha was involved in a lot of his points whether it was EV, PP or SH.
Mantha even talked about Marcott as a linemate in an article
Quote:
"Camp really showed me that I'm not ready yet," Mantha said. "That was a different level of hockey, obviously, and it takes a lot to be a pro. I learned so much, though. I know that I need to be better one-on-one, to keep working hard on the little things on and off the ice to really be ready for that next level. I'm doing that now. I've gotten help from my teammates on the ice like my linemate Louick Marcotte and of course my coach Mario Durocher. Coach has really helped me focus on the little things and just playing a more complete game."

Could you link those games stats?, I was told he mostly played with Henley and Richard. this is an eastern scout telling me this so it's possible he only saw a few games considering Val d'Or Foreurs is in "butt fac nowhere".
