I doubt that he needs money as his returns on the Penguins as well as his career earnings have made him a rich man. It's likely a scenario of selling high which is a key factor in the rich staying rich.

Lemieux needs money like the Oilers need more #1 Draft picks.

The team was originally purchased by him and Burkle
For the equivalent of 107 million dollars. It is now valued by Forbes in excess of 500 million. This, like all aspects of pro sports nowadays, is nothing but a business decision. He us fishing to see what he can get and if the right price is found and potential buyers OK'd by the NHL he will sell. If not, it's business as usual.
