To get around this issue, please go to the game's folder: (...)The Witcher\System\witcher.exe and create a shortcut to witcher.exe.
Right-click the shortcut and go to its Properties. In the Target textbox next to the path type:
-dontForceMinReqs
There should be a space between the path and the switch, like here:
"(...)System\witcher.exe" -dontForceMinReqs
Confirm with OK. Now when you run the game from this shortcut the Witcher should stop announcing that the minimum requirements are not met.
|
Make sure you follow all the steps. I tried doing it with the shortcut that was already on my desktop, but that one doesn't bypass the start screen. You actually do have to create one from the file indicated
Doing that made it work for me. I have had it crash in-game a couple times, but not often enough to dissuade me from playing it.

I've actually grown enough resistance that my "to do" list on games bought actually got a lot shorter this year instead of longer. I've got on my unplayed list
- Witcher 2
- Dishonored
- Alan Wake's American Nightmare
- Fallout: New Vegas
- Alien: Isolation.
Still, considering I want to finish an epic tabletop RPG-campaign this year, play another summer campaign, maybe write some adventures, run some games for the kids, maybe launch a youtube channel, work, probably move, hopefully get some studies in somewhere...
Plus I still have Cities: Skylines lying around. And Civ V. And some old adventure games I've been meaning to check out.
Yeah, I don't think I need more games right now.

Steam sales barely phase me since I started buying games off G2A.

I buy a lot of games from many different sites but I've never heard of that place before. Are they legit?

I love Civ V. It's a fun game, even if you literally play the exact settings over an over. Some find the battle animations redundant, but for me it adds to the charm.
I got a bunch of stuff coming up to Games are a nice escape from being an adult though

Shockingly, yes. They are a brokerage of 3rd party sellers. They have a G2A Shield guarantee (which costs ~1.25 on a transaction) that guarantees a working key.
I've bought at least a dozen games from them, never had an issue and all pre-orders arrive on time. Most games are 30%-50% off at all times, including new releases. Make sure you buy US/Global keys, as the Russian keys are super cheap but obviously are in Russian.

I'd like to add I preordered GTAV a month before it's release for $35 CDN on G2A, however it's through Rockstar Social Club rather than Steam.

Paying extra insurance for a game key to work seems a little . . . off to me. You can pay the premium elsewhere for other goods but it wrinkles my brain for digital games for some reason.
And with the recent Uplay key revoking issues and Witcher key controversy, it's probably not something I really want to dabble in (and potential hassle nevermind the money not going to developers) for the sake of a few dollars. Totally personal risk/reward decision though.
Polygon actually has an interesting write up on these grey market reseller websites and the process of stolen keys getting resold, revoked, etc. I know, it's rather rare but credit where it is due certainly.
http://www.polygon.com/2015/2/9/8006...ket-game-codes
That initial purchase was illegal, and the game codes were therefore deemed invalid. A lengthy forum post at Ubisoft, opened on Jan. 24 and now more than 60 pages long, is filled with aggrieved players who thought they were buying clean codes from G2A and Kinguin, but instead lost money in the transaction.
Ubisoft forum members were outraged that the company would take away games which they had, to their knowledge, successfully activated through their Uplay accounts. They were furthermore offended that Ubisoft would revoke those keys at all, regardless of whether or not they were purchased originally with stolen credit cards.
It is the simple fact that the Ubisoft game codes were purchased fraudulently, with stolen credit card information through EA's Origin service, that spurred Ubisoft to revoke them. But where does this leave consumers who choose to shop on marketplaces like G2A and Kinguin? How are they supposed to make educated purchasing decisions going forward?
Polygon made successful purchases from each website in the course of researching this article, and found interesting differences between how both companies inform their customers about who they're buying from.
While Kinguin makes a point of alerting customers of the account holder they're buying from at every step of the way, G2A does not.
When confronted with this information every single link in the resale chain — R, D and C — said they were sorry. D and C each said that they didn't know about the free code offer, or about how Robinson wanted to spread the love of gaming with it. Each offered to give away a code as a way of making amends, and R himself offered to refund Polygon's money for the transaction that started it all.
"My thoughts on the gray market are similar to my thoughts on piracy," Robinson wrote Polygon. "Which is that it's better for us to focus on creating good experiences for our paying customers."
But the fact remains that someone in the chain of resellers is lying to us, so back we went to ask them to tell us the truth.
R stands by his story, and says he has the PayPal invoices to prove it. He bought the code from D, but given the current situation he says that he'll no longer be using D as a source.
D has not responded to requests to talk with Polygon since our initial conversation last week. R says that he can't reach them either.
C maintains that he didn't sell a code, per se, just a link to a code generator at the Humble Store. Therefore, he can neither confirm nor deny that the code we purchased was from him. He has since pulled down the Steamgifts.com page where he says he traded away his copy of Gravity Ghost and says that he's unable to confirm that he traded it to a user named D.
In fact, C says he's never heard of them before.

Further reading to the above:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=979151
Here a quick summary and rundown below. I don't have an account on G2A but I've copied and pasted some comments about their security. Seems pretty damn crazy in this day and age. I wouldn't want any credit card/personal information stored there.
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/a...px?PageIndex=2
In the course of researching this story, the author registered for an account on G2A in hopes of getting more information about the Shield program. After doing so, the site sent the chosen password in plain text via email. Users should be aware that this may create a security hazard.
Comments near the last page of Neogaf thread:
Oh boy. That is stupid.
Oh boy, and people trust their card details to a site that doesn't even have basic encryption on log in details?
EDIT: Here is Total Biscuit's take on it with major point at 18:10. If they're selling the game on release day at $35 versus the retail and steam price of $60. Where do you think that discount is coming from? I guess if you are cool with that part . . .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-67...utu.be&t=11m4s
Got bored and did a bunch more searching on places like Neogaf and reddit. Seems like a LOT of people look at them as (quite) a bit scummy and that you get what you pay for. Trying to avoid projecting a judgement tone here, but absolutely seems like it's a buyer beware thing.

Yeah I wouldn't use a credit card there either.
EDIT: To clarify as well, a lot of what is sold also seems to be resold keys that the seller buys during things like Steam Sales, but are not available at that price point anymore. Sometimes missed flash sales can be missed, so the keys are available. As well, a lot of them are resold keys from promo cards (like the ones that come with new video cards and the like), and promo keys from events/expos. I've also been told that publishers will also sell bulk keys to distributors, so some keys are just re-distributors taking a smaller cut than the $70 price points found elsewhere.
I did not know about the stolen credit card thing however. That in particular makes me reconsider.

Basically the only games I'd consider buying at a discount are
Divinity - Original Sin
Wasteland 2
Pillars of Eternity
Any way to find out if any of those is coming down?

Pillars maybe, but I would bet the discount would be no more than 25%-30% since it's only been out ~3 months.
Divinity and Wasteland should go 50%+.

A nice collection of indie titles are up for grabs on Humble Bundle. I imagine most people have these already but if you don't it's a solid deal. https://www.humblebundle.com/

No, it runs until the morning of the 22nd. There will be new deals everyday and the final two days are an encore sale for the most popular deals.
