I have a sneaking suspicion they'll be keeping an eye on where Crouse falls. If he's still on the board at 11 they might be getting friendly with Florida.

Yeah, you're right and that should eliminate Philly as a possible partner. Florida looks like the best possibility.

Ramo isn't the guy long-term. Ortio, Gillies, McDonald, are. Hiller is a stopgap, signed at a reasonable term/dollar amount. If necessary, you can extend him another year or two when this deal expires, likely for less than the $4.5 he's making now, and for a shorter term than what you'll have to give Ramo.

If there was a noticeable gap in performance, I'd be inclined to hang onto Ramo. If I wasn't convinced Ortio can do everything Ramo did this year and then some, I'd be inclined to hang onto Ramo. But there isn't, and I am, so we let Ramo walk, and see what we have in Ortio next year.

Sure there is. Hes generally ranked in the 8-11 spot on most lists and is not a lock in any way to go top 10. This isnt Strome or Marner.

I believe if Crouse does go in the top 10 he would be the lowest scoring (point per game) forward from the CHL to go in the top 10 in over 10 years.

Agreed, trading up really makes no sense in regards to Crouse. Rantanen, any of the D-men up there, Zacha if they're really high on him, there's more than a few I'd hope the Flames traded up for over Crouse.

If Crouse was the faller to 15, I wouldn't cry if the Flames took him, but like you I don't see the upside of wasting extra picks on him.

I would like the Flames to try and trade up if they can get one of Hanifin, Provorov, or Werenski. Add that top D prospect would fill a huge hole.

I'd be interested to see Calgary get a boatload for Richards, including the 13th overall, and then flip both their firsts for #7 and draft Provorov

M.Richards, A. Kempe, 13th overall
for
M.Raymond

Then

13 + 15 for 7

That is way too much to give up for #7.

Hudler and a pick for #11 from Florida or something like that. Would you make that deal? (The pick is a mid round pick or do you think a second rounder or not even close enough?)

Yup. Best time to trade Hudler. He's a pending UFA and unlikely to repeat his career year last year. Time to cash in the lottery....but I don't think Treliving is smart enough to make a shrewd move like that. Have to understand....Managers also have to manage their popularity and trading Hudler after last season would not be a popular move even if its for the best of the club.

Nope. Florida doesn't make that deal. Would we take a pending ufa for the 15th and a mid round pick?

Hudler will have arguably more value at deadline when most of salary is paid off. Lots of teams will be cap challenged this off season. That's if we trade him at all.

Philly appears to also be in Cap Hell:

Flyers Trade:
PHI 7th Overall
TBL 1st Round Pick (29th or 30th)
PHI 3rd Round Pick (70th)
R.J Umberger (4.6M) 2Yrs left
Vinny Lecavalier (4.5M) 3 Years Left

Flames Trade:
CGY 15th Overall
VAN 53rd Overall
Josh Jorris (RFA)
Paul Byron (RFA)

Flames then own:
7th
30th
45th
52nd
70th
76th
83rd

I would be okay with this trade if we could dump Raymond and either Stajan or Jones in separate deals

They could also easily trade Pronger to cap floor team. $5 million cap hit, only $575k owed for each of the two years left

I think they do need a shakeup because the current makeup is having a difficult time winning. This at least gives them the flexibility to make moves or sign Jacob Voracek the following year and you know that will command 8M+ which will cost them another 4M or so. They also need to extend both Schenn's and Coutuier.

I really like what Treliving has done acquiring all the 2nd and 3rd rounders. If they can be traded to move up in the draft great, but if not there is nothing wrong with drafting more prospects.

Also, please do not turn this into the trade Hudler thread. His value to the team is more than his value in a trade. If the Flames do try to move up in the draft with a roster player I hope it would be someone like Hiller, Bollig, Raymond, or one of the young forwards lower on the depth chart.

The unfortunate part is none of those players really hold any value to other teams. Perhaps negative value in Raymond's case
