He'd probably be treated the same as any other non-paramedic/ first responder who helps out at the scene of an accident. Basically he can do what his training allows him and he is protected by the Alberta Emergency Medical Aid Act. Rendering aid in the event of an emergency is completely legal for a non-paramedic and you're protected by law except in cases of gross negligence on your part.

Ambulance and EMS uniform is weird though.

Haha. This guy added me on Facebook a while back. His heart seems to be in the right place, but this is just... a bad idea. I'll leave it at that.

That wouldn't happen. Once a crew is attached to a call, they proceed even if there's another crew there unless stood-down by dispatch.

This whole thing makes me uneasy. If you can't pass the EMR course/provincial exam, then you should not be treating anybody at all. If he's dressed like an AHS employee then he's abusing the level of trust the public has in EMS.

Haha, yeah I thought that was a weird scenario Fuzz painted, considering how technical and official everything is with medical calls.

"Unit 23, please provide update on possible stoke victim at X address"

"We went there, but there was some weird looking ambulance sitting out front, so we took off...I repeat the call has been taken care of".

People who have not passed an EMR course provide vital emergency care each and every day. Those who have training in emergency first aid are a critical tool in getting someone in need of it access to immediate help before the ambulance shows up.

Yes, that's fair. However, somebody who can't pass the EMR course should not be masquerading as EMS, driving an ambulance, and seeking out these situations.

It's one thing to provide first aid to somebody you see around you. It's another thing to fraudulently provide care under the guise of a professional.

Bystanders can be a great help, don't get me wrong. I'm sure this guys heart is in the right place, but he's being disingenuous.

I read the link with his bio, something seems off with it. Any mental health issues with this guy?

The calls he is supposedly dispatching himself to are low priority non-emergency calls - as so deemed by highly trained professionals following a highly professional standard. His level of training provides zero assistance to the supposed basic calls he is attending. Is he going to apply a tourniquet or provide CPR to someone with non-traumatic back pain or a toothache?

If help was needed sooner at these calls, PSC dispatch would have triaged the call as a higher priority and help would get there sooner, plain and simple.

This guy just wants all the 26A22 calls.

He wouldn't even be able to do anything on a 26A. At best, he could help for a 30A. Or 30-Omega.

My buddy has a friend who is in EMS. He says they ask a lot of personal and I mean personal questions about your life style with a lie detector test.

There's another question that could destroy your job security and that isHave you had sexual thoughts about the opposite sex (aka.. Your Mother, Sister) in your family.

Maybe failed those types of questions.. haha.

None of that is true for EMS.

In another oddity, unrelated to the fact that he's posing in a position that someone in crisis may not properly identify, looks like he may have just added on "St. Luke's Roosevelt" and "Continuum Health Partners" lettering onto a local (old) ambulance

St Luke's Roosevelt is in West Harlem, NYC.
Here's what looks to be their current livery:

Here's an (assumedly) older model/livery.

Here's a pic taken from Global Calgary for a story earlier in the year about rural Alberta ambulances....notice the orange and blue "half moon" logo in front of the "EMS" (and in front of the the "St. Luke's on the OP", as well as the side striping....exact same as the OP.

Not really relevant, and maybe this is a really old ambulance that was in NYC at some point in time...or maybe this nut job is trying to validate/further his story/credentials by adding graphics to whatever ambulance he picked up at local auction.

Carry on.

I found this all circulating on FB. It was taken down before I could get all the info but in my brief perusal of the information, he apparently has some sort of fascination with the St Luke's Roosevelt thing, but it all disappeared before I could read it all.

Might be hilarious from a distance, but there's actually a chance this guy will show up at my house should we ever need medical help
