Don't you know? Calgary isn't one of the best cities in the world and by God it should never try to be!
Keep my taxes low and no more arts, Chinese finger traps and transit. The city's number one mandate should be to get me from my McMansion in Kincora to the hell hole that is downtown in under 10 minutes.... Using my own vehicle.... And without raising taxes.

Looks like buddy is trying to come up with ways to overcome a $1.4B infrastructure budget shortfall.
I'm thinking we need to raise a few more bucks to pay for another civic election and take another vote on whether we want our social media darling mayor around anymore.
Other than staying up for 48 hours during the floods and gay rights marching he is pretty unimpressive.
For somebody who appears on the surface to be fiscally conservative, it strikes me as odd that you want to spend money to have an election against an unbeatable mayor.

I'd say either Bunk or Daorcey should post in this thread with the list of things Nenshi has accomplished in office, but that would be wasted against such a strong opening argument in the OP.

Vancouver tolled the Port Mann bridge which is the trans Canada hwy, so it seems the rules are bendy at least. The only real alternative route is tolled as well. DON'T say Patullo is a viable alternative. The Patullo is a joke.
It would be good if Deefoot was a at least a 4 laner or 5 laner, and the left lane an HOV lane. No need for tolls.
The guy is a genius. He's an antagonistic guy who's solution to every shortfall is to simply raise taxes and he's being hailed as one of the great mayors in the world. I don't know what power he holds over Calgarians but you have to admire a guy that can continue to siphon money from taxpayers and leave them smiling in the process.
Well he seems pretty artsy and stuff....likes bike paths and seems to have this vision of turning a prairie city into Copenhagen overnight.
He needs to understand what Calgary is and what it is not.
Ok, then what is the answer to your own question here?
This will go a long way in determining the viability of this thread moving forward. We can have lots of discussions about the mayor and the job he is/isn't doing - there are plenty of those around - but please don't be vague if you want to start one.

Calgary....I love this city and grew up here so I think I have earned an opinion.
1) Most people move to Calgary for just one thing...money.
2) Most people can hardly wait to make enough money to go back to where they came from and therefore have no interest in building community.
3) Calgary IS urban sprawl, any attempt at building the downtown core as something other than a ghost town other than business hours should have happened about 40 years ago.
4) In terms of culture....Winnipeg has more culture than Calgary can dream of.
5) History....Calgary is a VERY young city and acts like it.
Calgary is what it is...you can throw a bunch of money into this, that and the next thing to try to establish some kind of identity but really what it comes down to is that we are largely a city of get rich fast transients that will leave on a dime when it all goes south.
I just want to remind everyone that the OP is the same guy who said this in the layoffs thread:
Platform, promises....whatever. I don't trust any politician and certainly not an NDP government whose leader is a lawyer and a noted human rights and union activist.
And as far as her cabinet is concerned....regardless of experience she will surround herself with like thinkers.
I still cannot believe that the voters could be so damn stupid.
She has a full majority and carte blanche for the next 4 years and there is not a thing we the public can do about it.
So I guess if he can't stop Notley, he's going to pick on the next politician he thinks lies too far to the left.
