Then every single band member with a violent criminal record should also be banished from the reserve.

There's no rule they can use to have them banished however.

When I first heard this I immediately imagined a huge Native woman in love with Leslie Chow, and hilarity ensued.

and since they're using a racist rule they should be rightfully called out on it

If the criminal record was their true concern however, they would be protesting the presence of criminals regardless of colour. In the name of righteousness.
So then we come back to the beginning. They are using a blanket racist policy to remove him.
It is, what it is. There is no denying it, as hard as some people might try and think otherwise.

That was the law but it was changed about 30 years ago. Neither males or females lose their treaty status from marrying outside their race.

Whose denying it? I'm just dreaming up potential scenarios in which those using a ####ty rule aren't gigantic #######s. Benefit of the doubt and all that.

I worked in northern Manitoba for a few years. I saw lots of band members BCR'ed (banished from the reserve). It definitely happens.

So if they do the same to their own, kicking this guy out isn't racist.

Uuummm, if you read the article, this fellow is apparently an ex-con. Members of this community are finally thinking of the children by keeping this very dangerous man out of their community. Can say I blame them

It wouldn't be if they weren't using the fact that he's white as the reason.

It also said that since 2010, they have evicted 26 non-natives. Presumably they are not all ex-cons.
This same reserve was in the news last year when people were marking the doors of homes that had non-natives living in them:

Well I imagine they can't banish him in their normal way because he isn't a reserve member so they use what rules that are available. Like I said in my first post, he isn't a member so he's there as a guest. Last I looked you can kick any unwanted guests out of your place anytime you want to.

You're ignoring that it's the family that's being kicked out. And there was several links to other similar cases that didn't involve a convicted criminal. Some of them did include former Olympians though.

Can't believe we have Canadians who are defending a law that's purpose is to keep "the blood and culture pure."

Defending their culture is not the same as forcing their own people off their land for interracial marriages. That's called racism.
Having their homes and car vandalized because of the person they chose to marry, threatening discussions with their neighbours, anonymous letters telling them to leave, rallies outside their homes leaving them fearing for their children's safety. They're only missing a burning cross. And you want to defend that?

I would have no problem with it if it was just a case of white people moving there, but when they make laws to either entice or scare families into breaking up, I think it's really terrible... especially when children are involved.

They have a choice. Marry within their culture or move. On most reserves there is a shortage of housing for their own so why should they give free housing to white people.

Wow. "Marry within their own culture" or have negative consequences occur. Yeah, there's a lot of policies that have followed similar formats throughout the ages and we have no problem calling them racist now.
Also, allowing your husband to move into the house you inherit from your father isn't exactly giving out free housing to white people.

From what I've seen there is no formal inheritance of housing or land. It's the common property of the reserve. Look at it as a commune. Would the Hutterites let anyone move onto their commune?
