The Sabres duo might surprise. Either Eichel or Reinhart will have Kane on his wing. Eichel has been playing against older men including at the WHC.

I'm willing to bet that at the beginning of this season, McDavid had eyes for Calgary after listening to Sam talk about the organization and city. Didn't work out so well for him.

There were very few point per game players, maybe four last year with significant games played? Very hard to do now.

8 players, and just barely:

I hope the team does not regress and takes the playoff lessons this year and uses them to push further next year.

Surely Bennet will be a big part of that. In fact I think we will have a healthy 1a and 1b centre lineup between Bennett and Moneyhands for years to come.

EDM will need a couple more years before they matter. Regardless of what McD does.

I certainly believe this team qacontinues to push forward next year and there will be no regression. When our heart and would captain went down it became clear the team identity remained strong. Once Gio went down the top line stepped up to become one of the best lines in a,l of hockey. Gaudreau is 21 and Monahan is 20 these were 2/3 of the line that put the team on their back and got them to the playoffs.

i think much of the team is still improving and can take another step next year. Treliving also has a lot of flexibility with the cap and several assets at his disposal to improve the team.

In terms of Bennett vs McDavid I see this being the beginning of a long rivalry and while I think Sam is going to get 50-65pts I can see McDavid being ppg or better next season. The battle of Alberta is going to be alive and well for a solid decade starting as early as next year

Mcdavid had a rough time against Ottawa last night. They mentioned he had tough time dealing with the pair of 20 year old defensemen, how will he do against 25 and 30 year olds in the NHL?

It's one game, and he's had good looks, but the goalie has been better. I don't think it says much.

If he goes down two more games like this, then certainly some questions could be asked

Put my vote in for Jack Eichel. He IMO faced much tougher competition than McDavid last year, and while Bennett has gotten some playoff experience this year, most of it has been on the left wing, which isn't where we need/want him playing long term as we have enough quality, natural LWs to fill two NHL rosters (Gaudreau, Hudler, Bouma, Colborne, Ferland, Byron, Granlund, Poirier, Bollig, Wolf, Raymond, Klimchuk, Agostino, Elson). The center position will be brand new to Bennett at NHL level, and we saw that affect Nathan MacKinnon's production this year. Eichel will adjust quicker than McDavid and Bennett IMO.

1. Stop calling him McJesus.

2. McDavid is No Good.

3. Bennett will win

I think calling him McJesus is acceptable because that's what the Oilers view him as. I posted a couple pics in the E=NG thread, straight from HF Oilers.

Unless some one legitimately is offended by it.

We're not the oilers though.

I'm not offended by it, I just think it's odd to call our biggest rival's future best prospect Jesus.

Personally I like to be optimistic and call him McDaigle. It really annoys the Oil fans I know.

If I was an Oiler fan I wouldn't be annoyed by rivals calling him McDaigle. There's absolutely nothing, barring major injury to suggest McDavid will be anything but a star in the NHL, let alone equal to one of the biggest busts in NHL history.

So strange some of these threads. Maybe it speaks to our inability to just live in the present (damn millennials right CliffFletcher) but we're about play the biggest game in a very long time, a literal must win and we have this and some other "next season" threads on the go.

People said the same thing about Daigle!

Seriously though, a guy can hope, can't he?

People can talk about the past, present and future. Nothing wrong with that.

There's only so much one can talk about tonight's game.

People love to talk about prospects. Good for them. Doesn't take away the importance of the playoffs at all.

Crosby got over 100 points in his rookie season on a bottom-feeding team so I don't see McDavid not hitting the 80 point mark. He'll win the Calder too.

McDavid will probably win because like it or not, they have great offensive group.

However, his point totals won't have any effect on winning games. They'll still suck. He can get them out of the bottom 5, which is good for not only us but for the hockey world.

^ this. A team with no legitimate #1 goaltender and no legitimate shutdown d-pairing will never be able to make the playoffs, regardless of how good their offensive attack may be.
