Correct me if I am wrong but it looks like they are not representing sliding contracts very well. For example, doesn't Poirier's contract slide this year? They have him with only 2 years left on his deal. Pretty sure Klimchuk still has 3 years on his deal as well.

Without the armchair GM or buyout calculator it's not really a capgeek replacement, not much different from NHLnumbers.

Let's say you get a starting goalie like Niemi, probably costs you around 4 mill (being conservative here). McDavid will likely hit bonuses so thats like 3.5 mill. That leaves about 8 mill to find 2 guys capable of playing top pair. If you sign Schultz likely around 3 mill. Leaves 5 mill to get a dman and your cap space is all gone. Roster is filled out but defence still sucks and goalie will likely suck too.
|
They also have a lot of players tied up long term so they aren't going to have cap flexibility for a while as the players they sign this summer to fill roster spots will likely command multiple year deals and any decent defensemen is going to want 4 years or more in a contract.

Why not? He has played less than 10 NHL games this season hasn't he? Doesn't his contract slide? Regardless, it also states that Klimchuk has used up a year of his contract.
Jared McCann of the Canucks who was drafted this past summer is also someone that only has 2 years left. He hasn't played any NHL games so why didn't his contract slide?

Hey, it's in it's first day, glad it has sprouted up. They will likely eventually get all the other goodies that Capgeek had but it'll take some time to grow.
Not a bad initial release.
They shut down for a couple of hours today because it crashed under so much instant traffic.

Good point, its their first day. I cant recall if CapGeek was perfect on its first day either.
"Its my first day!"

A couple more new sites have popped up trying to fill the CapGeek void...
http://capfriendly.com -- I like that you can toggle between cap hit, salary, bonuses, and clauses all on the main page. It's lacking individual player details. The free agent search is well done.
https://www.hockeyscap.com -- So far, this one seems to have most of the stuff we were used to on CapGeek, like the Armchair GM and Buyout Calculator.
One thing I miss from CapGeek that I haven't found on any of the other sites is the team depth chart.

Porier played in the AHL this season with a few games in the NHL. Years playing in the AHL are subtracted from contract years. He signed a three year deal, played one year in the AHL, he now has two years remaining.
As for Klimchuk. He played in the WHL last year. If his entry level deal was three years, he should still have three years left.

Incorrect. Poirier signed his contract on December 31, 2013. Even though he was actually 19 years-old on the date it was signed, it was considered an 18 year-old contract because that was his age on September 15, 2013 (one of the odd quirks in the CBA). If he had signed a day later, it would have been considered a 20 year-old contract because he turned 20 in 2014 and it wouldn't have been able to slide at all.
As an 18 year-old signing, his contract was able to slide 2 years unless he played 10 NHL games. The first year it slid was 2013-14 when he was still in the QMJHL. It also slid this season because he only played in 6 NHL games. AHL games do not prevent an ELC from sliding.

Good site. Thanks.
Brodie's contract looks great.
Quite a few RFA's this year. Backlund, Jooris, Shore, Bouma, Ferland, Byron

Visuals on that site could use work, but it's a promising start. Thanks for the link.

I will throw my unconditional support behind the first cap site that has a functioning waiver eligibility calculator or section.

I've been told by many who would know that Poirier's deal IS apparently going forward this year. My understanding is the deal has the ABILITY to slide, but either the team or the player's camp can decide to start it rolling.
