I'm glad Wildrose stuck together when they were in shambles. In a way it was just as well, no point having people on your team who are going to cross the floor like that anyway.
Part of me wanted to vote for the Alberta Party but there was no candidate for that part in Calgary Klein.

Jeremy is a good candidate. He is a buddy of mine and I've been helping with his campaign. He has put a lot of time and effort into his campaign and meeting his constituents during both this election and last election.

I don't understand the notion of "I'll show them all by not voting."
What message does that send to any leader other then you don't care how you are governed?

I want the PC's out - it's just unfortunate that in my riding, the PC candidate actually seems like the best candidate.
Lucyshyn in Calgary West probably has the best chance to unseat Ellis, so I'll probably vote Wildrose. I don't think the NDP candidate in this riding has much of a chance, unfortunately.
|
Your part of Calgary voted in Rob Anders over and over. That should disqualify it from electing anyone for a period of, let's say, 10 years so people can think about what they've done.

Agreed, at least go spoil your ballot if you want to protest.

How exactly do you spoil a ballot? Write F.U. on it? Not that I'm thinking of doing it, just wondering what that really means. And do they bother reporting how many ballots were spoiled?

Mark more than one choice. The reason they report the number of spoiled ballots because they are usually only done intentionally and they represent a rejection of the choices.

Do they, though? People often lump them on with idiots too dumb to properly fill a ballot. I used to spoil my ballot as a matter of principle, but it really leads nowhere. Wouldn't it be nice to have the "none of the above" choice and if that's the majority, a by-election runs where new candidates need to be nominated?

Many moons ago I worked at a polling station for Elections Canada for a referendum vote.
Can't remember what my title was, but I was "the person that handed you the ballot". Then I counted them when it was over. They were counted several times by several people. Anyway...
The spoiled ballots were set aside in this sad little pile. To be considered spoiled, they either hadn't been marked at all, marked both "yes" and "no", or they had some illegible message scrawled on them with one of those little pencils. Even if they had clearly voted yes or no, if it said anything else, they were spoiled.
We had hundreds of ballots, but maybe two dozen were spoiled. They were counted, put in a separate box, and dropped into the river for all I know. Nobody cared about them. They didn't make a difference, and no protest was noted. They might as well have not existed. Only the person that spoiled the ballot knew that the ballot had been spoiled. It was completely pointless.
So if anyone wants to spoil your ballot, don't bother. A spoiled ballot gets less attention than the ballot for a person who doesn't vote at all. They actually report voter turnout on the news.

Don't just spoil your ballot. Go and officially Refuse or Decline your ballot. Spoiled ballots aren't differentiated between protest votes or people who just screwed up. If you officially Decline your ballot, it is counted separately from spoiled ballots and recorded. It's a measurable way to voice your discontent with the parties.

No. Reject your vote. Alberta allows voters to reject their vote on the basis that none of the parties or candidates meet the voters requirements to vote. It's counted separately.

I voted Wildrose only because I thought the candidate has the best chance to win against the current PC we have.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. Mike Ellis isn't too bad, but I want the PCs out.
