There is nothing wrong with power rankings. It is a quick way to see how all NHL teams are doing while getting a small amount of information on each. Some are better than others though and I find the TSN one to be the worst due to some odd formula Cullen uses.
The problem is people taking the rankings too seriously. They are just one person's opinion on what teams are better than others. I would equate their relevance with that of pre-season predictions as in they are something to read and talk about but mean absolutely nothing.
