Guy went from near death to having a solid NHL career and three Stanley Cup appearance and two rings. Not much left for him to prove and he obviously feels he doesn't need any more money because he could collect another year or two worth of pay if he wanted.

Forever a Flame seems to be too much for Regehr.

A Robyn Regehr night like they had for Gary Roberts this season seems to be more appropriate.

At least that is the standard the Flames have put IMO.

Great career but I dont think he will get any special acknowledgement.
Did this really need to be said?

Of course the greatest power forward of this generation and one of the best goalies in the last 20 years is going to rank above a stay at home d-man.

Wait'a state the obvious.

One of my all time favourite Flames, glad he got a cup. The only thing scarier then a snarl and snort from Regher was when he grew out that beard.

One day I'll learn to spell his name right I suppose.

Wish the Flames would adjust things here. Retire big numbers but the forever a Flame program would be a perfect secondary way for guys like Regher

A true soldier and warrior. He also did a great deal for the Calgary community during his lengthy tenure. He set a precedent for the club when it came to charity work.

I'm sure he has his reasons, but the guy looked like he had a few years left in the tank to me.

Robyn Regehr tells reporters he's retiring and somewhere Ales Hemsky smiles wanly.

Robyn Regehr is likely to retire. Jarret Stoll said the puck he picked up at the end of the game was for him.

Didn't like what Robin did to Hudler but that's past.
#28 was one hell of a shut down physical D for the Flames.
He still owns his home in Calgary and spends some of the offseason here under the radar since he was traded to BUF.

Thanks for the great years Robyn.

Don't know about jersey retirement, but they should name a tunnel in the new building after him. Preferably the one that leads from the visitor's dressing room to the ice.

The Robyn Regher Tunnel of Death.

It's meant to be an honour for some pretty special players for the franchise, I don't thin Reg qualifies as that.
I beg to differ that he was a one dimensional player. Just because he lacked any realy offensive abilities doesn't mean he was completely inept. Reggie was a 22 minute/night, +30 defenseman in Calgary (+70 in his years after the SCF run) in an era where the 'shutdown' defenseman has thinned out completely, he stays relevant.
3 time allstar, 2 time norris balloted, 1 time olympic appearance. most games played by a single Calgary Flames defenseman. I think he ranks in the top 5-10 in all-time Flames defenseman as well, so not jersey retirement status, but hovering around the FaF honors for sure.

Plus, the NHL's only Brazilian!

Apparently he made this decision a while ago:

David Pagnotta @TheFourthPeriod
Quite the career for Robyn Regehr, who knew coming into this season that it would likely be his last. Made decision to retire a while back.

Great career, Reggie. It's sobering watching your hockey heroes retire. I think it's just Iggy and Leopold now left from 04.

I still remember reading the article in the Herald after that car crash and him breaking both his legs. Article said he might never play hockey again. A couple years later he was the cornerstone of our defence and helped to lead the Flames to the cup final. What a warrior and it's so fitting he got to finish his playing days with Sutter as his coach.

A true class act and one of the best Flames of all time. Glad he got his cup alongside Sutter.

Coming back from the car accident was pretty tough, and, to be honest, he didn't really look right in his time here, and his play was frustrating. A big guy, but he was tentative in the corners, not using his size or being at all aggressive, and on the trade block too,or so was whispered.

Then Darryl got a hold of him and whatever he did, turned Regher into a mean SOB. Still dont like the way his time ended here, and I don't think he did as well, but considering skating was never his strong suit, clearly he worked hard on it to stay in the league (See Douglas Murray).

Best of luck to him, and those Hemsky hits were fantastic; hopefully the Flames recognize him officially.

League becomes less diverse too...dont believe there are any other active South American born players left in the league. Samba on, Robyn.
