You're possibly going to get confronted by some jerk wad. It's probably better to pretend you're deaf and just walk away. Other than that, you'll probably be fine. But as Daradon said, some will legit want to chat.
Now on the other hand, ask for a reason if someone says to you, "That's an ugly jersey". The reason might make you wear a #### eating grin for an afternoon (I know it did for me).

If I can get a "Flames in 5" on the Skytrain in Vancouver yesterday for wearing my Flames hat, you should be fine in Edmonton.

I wear my jersey, jackets, hoodies, shirts, flip flops, hat, dog tag... everything all the time. People at work bug you and repeat the same stupid jokes but nobody in public ever says anything.

Rubbing it in is an after-thought and it's mostly that I'd love to support my team for our return to the playoffs.
We'll be stopping in Red Deer for a hot minute to get Timmies but I'm not worried about that because I was born there and Red Deer is Floilers territory.
I expect I will actually see a few Flames jerseys in West Ed on a game day though.
Any stories from you Edmontonians/people who have lived up north and don your Flames gear?
It'd be weird if anyone tried to challenge me though. I'm a small girl.

My buddies and I (3 of us) rocked our jerseys at West Ed last week before the Flames, and Loser Oilers game. Seriously it's funny now just cause the Fans know their team suck now haha

Lol, all you might get is a few bad jokes and light jabs, but to be honest, no one here really cares about the Flames anymore. The most common comment I get is usually "at least you have a team worth cheering for"...
To be honest, oiler fans for the most part are very respectable. Just don't act like a jerk and rub it in, and no one will actively harass you.
I Know all this because I wear my flames shirt/cap quite a bit, as well as carry around a flames lanyard with my keys that's visible from my pocket literally all the time when I am out.

At the end of January when the Flames beat the Oilers 4-2 I was at a bar in Edmonton. They had the game on TV, and there were more Flames Jerseys in the bar than Oilers jerseys. At this point Oilers fans keep their mouths shut anyways.

Actually, in Mogadishu they're okay with folks wearing their Flames jerseys in public too....

You will be fine. I wear flames stuff year round and haven't heard a peep in years it seems. Even on game days oilers fans have been pretty quiet the last few years.

Seems like it's older fans now, like one guy I work with, who are more likely to talk smack as they vividly remember the 80's wins. I wasn't even alive for our cup win so this is the smack talk that means the least to me.

I have alway's found Oilers fans much more respectful than Canucks fans. Even during the eighties whenn the Canucks probably had 10,000 hardcore fans and awful teams, they were still ignorant/arrogant.

Speaking of Edmonton (didn't want to start a whole new thread), does anyone know of a good place to catch the first two playoff games along Whyte Ave?

Hudsons or The Pint would probably be the best two options.

I've been "up here" since November of 2003 and experienced the 2004 playoffs in the bars here. You have Jack S%^t to worry about in my opinion.
For the most part? Even back in 2004, most of the folks I ran in to were backing the Flames in the final...it's the Canadian thing to do!
Hell? I cheered for the "Grease-bags" when they did their own "Cinderella" thing in 2006. Fair is fair.
Don't try this in Van...they seem to have a "different" mindset in this regard.
Up here, people (grudgingly) accept that we have built a far better team out of superior drafting, despite the fact that we have always drafted lower than the Oilers. This is not the work of one man... it started "way back"...but it continues to this day and WE should be respectful of those (some no longer with the organization) who had the foresight to make this year what it has now (implausibly- at the onset) grown into.
Be humble; don't rub dirt in anyone's face, encourage the folks you meet to get on board the big Red Ship of Dreams.
It's that simple.

Don't see it being too big of an issue. Times have changed and the Battle of Alberta isn't what it used to be.

I seem to remember a few fans trying to get together for a Flames playoff game and the manager of Hudson's saying in no uncertain terms that they only will play the sound for an Oilers game. I'd stick to somewhere else.
As for the OP wearing the jersey...you won't be the only one, especially at West Edmonton Mall on a weekend. The few times I do venture there on a Saturday I always see multiple Flames jerseys. The fans here are too busy being sad to stir anything up.
