It had to be a record for when the pot starts at $0. Because we've gone over $200k on the total pool a couple times when the Flames started it at $50k.

And, I may be mistaken, but I believe that legally the Flames have to give that money away. So if nobody claims it, expect to see some future 50/50s start with $25k or $50k "donations" from the team - though likely next year, I would guess.

So much mis-information in this thread.

First off, some registered non-profit group is running this 50/50 draw and I am not sure if the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (which owns the Flames) is a non-profit group. Actually the non-profit is Flames Foundation for Life, link.

Second, rules are here for raffles over $10,000 in value. Amount will be carried over if no one claims the price - I can only assume this is a 'bearer' type raffle which is referenced by section M18 at the above link. The non-profit could also donate the unclaimed amount to a charitable beneficiary approved by the AGLC..

By the way, per Flames Foundation for Life 50/50 Draw web page, only the April 9th, 2015 draw hasn't been claimed and there was $165,625.00 worth of tickets bought at that single game - that would explain the large pot size.
