Pardon the pun, but after reading his bio on MRU and the allegations on news websites, he sounds like a dick.

I hadn't seen some of the articles as this was happening.
http://calgaryherald.com/news/local-...says-colleague
Administrators at Mount Royal University knew for years about bullying allegations against prominent criminology professor John Winterdyk but did little to address the issue, an instructor who works with him said Thursday.
Winterdyk, 60, now faces a charge of forcible confinement after a female colleague in the justice studies department accused him of trapping her in her office and verbally assaulting her for two hours in 2012.
Greif said many of the complaints against Winterdyk were supported by the investigator — a retired Calgary police officer hired to conduct the probe — but the university didn’t appropriately punish him.
He said Winterdyk pressure him to take a semester off “so someone else could take my place,” he said.
As a sessional instructor, Greif was on contract with the university but not a full-fledged faculty member. However, Greif said the staff’s collective agreement has provisions giving instructors who teach a certain subject precedence the following semester.
Greif said when he refused Winterdyk’s entreaties to go on leave, the chairman began “character assassinations” aimed at making him appear unsuited for teaching.
“He came up with these ridiculous complaints, ‘A student said this,’ or ‘a student said that,’” said Greif.
Other sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the university’s reluctance to sanction Winterdyk was what prompted the female faculty member to contact police about the incident in her office.
In 2012, as the investigation of the justice studies department was still ongoing, Winterdyk was given one of MRU’s first full professorships as the institution progressed in its transition from college to university status.
“That speaks volumes,” Greif said.
There are other faculty members who share his opinion, but Greif said they are afraid of losing their jobs if they speak out.
For his part, Greif said he and his family have recently moved out of Calgary and he has no plans to return to MRU.
“I’m never teaching there again. I’ve had enough,” he said.

Oh man, his bio is written like he wants people not to like him, and yet you also get that he doesn't get that.
He should add "first professor de-tenured, MRU" to his list of firsts.

I also find his athletic achievements somewhat irrelevant to his position. He was in a triathlon once? Who cares?

omg - I had him for some classes back in the early 90s. He was a complete jackass - such an inflated ego. He won a medal in a triathlon and wore the medal to school during his lectures. Before one exam he said 'dont worry everyone - guaranteed you'll get the last question correctly' The question was "Who was the youngest graduate in Simon Fraser University history" or something about a Phd which of course the answer was John Winterdyk. He's such a knob.

Yep. The part in his bio about how he was a first at a bunch of things (including athletic pursuits) just shouted volumes to me about what an ass he seemed to be.
It also heavily framed how I read the articles.
