I had a bad high ankle sprain a couple of times. The first time was the worst. Had a walking cast but also wanted to play the last weekend of my CIS career, so I had 4 days to get it good enough I could run without pain.

A lot of rest, walking cast and a really good tape job specific for high ankle sprains and I played and I played just fine. After the games I played, I was in pain but I didn't do any further damage.

It is doable, maybe not 100% but you sure feel like 100% with the help from great taping, icing after the game, taking some advil and resting when you aren't playing.

He is probably pretty close to being ready, like 95%.

An interesting thought, is it illegal to play two goalies on goal? Say, it's a minute left and the opposing team has pulled their goalie..

In reference to how important backup goalies have been to the Flames this season:

Darren Haynes @DarrenWHaynes
Hartley's pulled his starting goalie eight times. The guy in relief has given up one goal on 80 shots in 195+ mins -- a 0.31 GAA, 0.988 SV%.

Yes, the rule book specifically forbids this.

Not to mention that Hiller won't be able to get away with many more performances like against Phoenix. There's a legit goalie that can replace him if it comes down to it.

I feel like if this were possible, someone would've tried it by now.

It'd be pretty funny though if the NHL totally overlooked it because of how ridiculous it is, and it actually wasn't in the rule book....

Someone did try it before, it came up in another thread but someone did it in the 1920s or something against Montreal I think. It failed miserably the two goalies kept running into each other and they lost the game many goals to none.

This is obviously a huge relief. I wonder if Ramo's injury is worse than originally thought.

Not relevant at all. Ortio gives us a better chance to win, if needed, than Thiessen does. That is all.

If so, hopefully Gio has been drinking that water since his injury.

Interesting. I wonder how this compares to the league average for relief goalies (versus overall goaltending averages) considering the circumstances of the game at the time a goalie is pulled.

Collective sigh of relief.

Lock up the spot tonight then give Hiller Saturday off to prepare for the playoffs.
