Movie was better but the show had it's moments. Felt like it was trying too hard most of the time.

Hmm the movie seems to split most people. Ive heard you miss some jokes in the show if you haven't seen the movie, which makes sense. I guess I'm more wondering if the show makes the movie better or vice versa, or if it even matters.

I'd watch the movie first because there are jokes in the series that make direct reference to the movie that you wouldn't get otherwise.
Personally, I thought the series did a better job than the movie. When watching the movie, I often thought, "yeah, I can see what you're going for, but you're taking too long to get there". Oddly enough, the series is longer, but I think breaking it into 30 minute chunks helped it flow better.

yeah, and he ruins nearly every scene he's in. It was at the level of a high school play, just brutally bad writing combined with equally cringe worthy execution. He would switch his personality every 10 seconds and it was god awful watching, it was supposed to be some prepubescent kid acting cool for the girl but that's never entertaining.
It was like watching a high school play where one kid thinks he's the best and he does so by acting like a dooshnozzle in every scene.

In my opinion the movie is absolutely hilarious while the show was pretty good and a lot of fun to watch, especially Paul Rudd.

It's humor for 12 year olds... to each their own I guess.

That was kind of the joke though.

Watched both and enjoyed both. The movie seemed more subtle with it's ludicrousness than the show is, (***SPOILER*** ie. The multiple kids drowning that just kind of get blown over). And I thought Andy was much less likable in the movie than in the show. The movie he is always that doosh, but in the show he has some sincere moments which make him reverting back to being a doink a little sloppy and odd.
I think the show is great, some really hilarious moments of absurdity. I like all the cameos and the fact that the whole cast of 35-pluses are supposed to be teenagers. The show definitely makes for some funny character traits that either weren't apparent in the movie, or they decided to add for comedic affect (Abby's situation and Victor), or stuff that added to the absurdity (Molly Shannon's multiple marriages).
Either way, I laughed, and so did my brother. It may be humor for 12 year olds, but I'm a 12 year old trapped in a 26 year old body, so that suits me just fine. The music is great as well.
