This page shows what the standings would be under different point systems (assuming all games would have the same results):

The P3 column is what the standings would be with regulation wins being worth 3 points. This system doesn't favour the Flames this season because they have won a lot of games in OT/SO. The 3-point system favours teams that win a lot in regulation.
13 of the Flames' wins have come in extra time. Only 3 of LA's wins have come in extra time, so they get a lot more 3rd points than the Flames.
The Flames would be in 8th place, but only 2 points up on Winnipeg and 3 up on San Jose.
The only difference to the current playoff races is that LA would be in third in the Pacific, Calgary would be in the Wild Card, and Winnipeg would be out. Chicago and St Louis would switch position in the standings, as would Tampa and Montreal. 15 of the 16 teams currently in a playoff spot would still be there.
