Gotta love the arbitrary criminal charge plea that comes with these offenses
Cant have it both ways
He will get suspended, or banned. Nothing crimnal will come of it, unless there is something written into the league/laws of the country they play in
I disagree. This wasn't like it was during the heat of play or in a scrum. He was totally off guard and not expecting it. It is no different if this was done in the dressing room hallway. If this happened in an NHL warmup. He would likely leave the arena in handcuffs.

If it was during a game, maybe. This was during a warmup, well outside the confines of the game imo, and I would treat it the same as if he did this in the parking lot after the game.

There is a long line of pre game/warmup incidents that have happened before this and that will happen after this, that would otherwise be deemed criminal in the context of the law
but again, it doesnt work that way
Look im not trying to justify his actions, pure meathead who should be banished....but hes not getting arrested. You cannot just draw a random line in the sand and say action A is criminal well action B is not, when a laundry list of items that certaintly within the realm of reason could be deemed criminal...that happen every couple of weeks across all leagues

Wait...from the same article it mentions not only he played that game, but also played another game. What the hell.

Actually, you absolutely can. It has happened in Canada and will happen again.
Complete BS. Dude wasn't even paying attention or facing him. If they were chirpin each other, I could understand, but this is beyond low.
Looking at the video again... it looks like the other player was lucky enough to get lumber jacked in the pants and not behind the knees? I cringed when I saw that action.

I think you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

The reason he could play another game was due to the fact that the footage of the assault didn´t show up before after the second game.
The "funny" thing is:
This is the third time in only a couple of week there has been some kind of incident during the warm up (The last time I can remember it happened was in the mid eighties.)
All of them has happened in the play off to the SHL, and two of them has had Devaux as a part of it.
The "defence" from Rögles' side (Deveaux's club) is that apparently the other team shot pucks at them/over to their side during warmup? Dear lord.
The worst thing is that even if the Swedish league hands him a very long suspension, or lifetime ban, he can just go and play elsewhere. I guess it's harder these days though since video clips quickly spread all over the world and many clubs would probably refuse to touch him with a ten-foot pole.
"As a club we condem this incident. It is unacceptable behaviour on his part, and nothing we as a club stand behind. The actions are not sanctionizes from us. We have talked to him today and decieded to part ways." Chairman Håkan Eriksson.
Devaux:
“The emotions took over for me there for a few seconds. Although my reputation seems to precede me, I am not a violent person.”
“My intent was never to inflict any serious injury and given that I'm a much bigger person than Helmersson it is clear that if the damage had been my intention, he had not been able to play the game, or the next.”
“I realize I've made some strong comments in the heat of battle after we won the match series against Västerås and would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Vasteras, Per Helmersson and to all hockey fans after I lost my temper.”
