Shortley after Gio went down, Brodie had some of his very best games while paired with Engelland, he dominated some of those games in a way that only Drew Doughty can. He had aome real good games with Gio early in the season and he's had poor games with Gio as well.
He's still young and prone to mistakes and inconsistency, it normal, it's not Engellands fault.

It's not Engelland's fault, no.
But who your defensive partner is makes a huge difference. Gio and Brodie would give each other outs. And they played off each other's speed. Also, partners develop plays and know where each other is for better outlet passes and to relieve pressure.
Engelland couldn't be any less like Giordano. He wants to chip it off the glass and out all the time. That's fine, but it's a totally different style.
The other big thing is that Brodie is most effective when he's utilizing his skating. But with Engelland, he is spending much of his time in his own end playing a completely different style.
IT's not Engelland's 'fault'. But playing with Engelland completely neutralizes Brodie's skillset.
