In retrospect, the Jets would have won that game, if we did not rest Pavelec, on the back-to-back.

Don't know about you guys but I haven't been this nervous for a flames team for years. I know its all gravy like everyone says but I'll honestly be crushed if the flames don't make the playoffs. I know it's a great sign for the future even if we don't make it but the sports fan flames fan spirit in me just doesn't want to be ok with missing the playoffs!
I like to think we're all getting gloomy so that the Flames story can continue in cardiac fashion. Final game Shootout loss off the post but clinching due to ROW.

I could be wrong but doesn't Vancouver play mostly, (give or take a team)the same teams that Calgary does going down the stretch? Wouldn't that make Calgary's schedule just as hard?

Flames need to win out. They're out of gas. Great season for a rebuilding team, but it will be for naught. Let's hope the hockey gods reward us with a draft lottery win.

Oh, so it's going to take 103 points to make the playoffs?

Just being a realist. All we heard over the last month was how easy the Flames schedule was down the stretch and how the Kings, Jets, Wild had difficult schedules and none of that has come to fruition. In fact the Flames have had the most difficult schedule because they have been playing teams that have all been on winning streaks and strong play of late while the Predators slumped, teams like the Habs start their backup that is a .500 goaltender, and then there's the fact that all the teams in the race have all ramped up their play as over the last 10 games.
The Flames are now on the outside of the playoffs looking in which means they are no longer in control of their own fate and considering how miserable the OOT scoreboard has been over the last month it's not very reassuring especially given the Flames are about to embark on a road trip where they face the hottest team in the league in the Wild and a team that is simply far better than them in the Blues. A loss tonight drops them below 50% odds for making the playoffs. It is what it is.

We are in control of our own destiny still though. As long as we stay within 2 points of either the Jets or Kings until those last 2 games, we get in by winning.

When you have things like the Isles and Rangers lying down the way they did for the Kings, and the Habs throwing their game against the Jets entirely, then I doubt those two games will even matter.

I get that some don't like LA is winning, but other teams are not "lying down" when playing them. Give LA credit, they are playing incredible hockey right now. If they can keep this up for the playoffs they would be my pick to win Stanley Cup.
I agree about Montreal starting back-up. They pretty much gave the Jets 2 points before the puck dropped.

The New York Rangers did not show up to play.
That is a fact that is independent of how well the Kings are playing.
These are supposed to be among the best teams in the league. All they are demonstrating is that the best teams in the east are still mediocre teams.

If we don't get at least 8 points on this road trip the last two wont matter. The way the other teams are playing we need to get 13 points in our last 8 games..

LA is playing great but the Rangers should have been a lot more motivated than they looked given they had a chance to put a damper on the playoff hopes of the team that eliminated them in the Stanley Cup finals. Elliot Friedman mentioned this morning that the Habs not starting Price against the Jets raised a few eyebrows across the league. Outside of the Flyers I can't recall a Flames opponent not showing up to play them or an opponent that has gone with their backup. The Blues for instance come in Calgary like they are playing for the cup and against the Jets are a complete no show. Heck even the Avs threw the Canucks a bone starting Berra although it worked out for them (or against them as it looks like the typical Avs tank when they are eliminated trying to move up a few spots in the draft).
I don't believe there's a conspiracy around the league but the Flames really aren't getting any breaks and at the end of the day if they miss the playoffs it will be their poor record against the Eastern conference that probably did them in as all the other Western teams have rolled over even the best teams in the East.

Probably not, but the head-to-head games and the lack of help make it a situation where the Flames cannot make another misstep. LA has Edmonton on the schedule twice, and then Colorado and San Jose one more time as well. I'm looking at that schedule and seeing another eight points for the Kings by time the Flames lock horns with them again, and that is without having San Jose as their last game of the season as a cushion. 103 points may not be likely, but 98 is what I think is going to be the minimum number needed to get in.
