Complete no-risk move. It is an ATO, so if they like what they see, they offer him an ELC. With him being on the AHL affiliate, even though another team could sign him, it would appear the Flames have the inside track

Seems like a decent skater for his size. Put him into our system and see how he plays!

Honestly though, I don't see this guy being better than Dustin Stevenson, who's been pretty good if you ask me (better than Chris Breen ever was).

Two college signings in 2 days? Nice. Free assets are always nice.

He's free and on an ATO. It's a win if he isn't a pylon on skates.

How people can complain about moves like this is beyond me. Especially after the emergence of Jooris. You never know if you can get a depth piece without having to spend a pick/asset.

Precisely. If you get the free chance to throw a bunch of darts at the board in an attempt to land a good player for you, why wouldn't you do it?

Based on those two videos alone it's clear to me that this guy deserves a shot. There's no commitment, no risk and definite potential. If he deserves a ELC, he'll get an ELC. The rebuild continues...

Let's see, not including Gilmour, Hickey, Rafikov, or AOM; this is our AHL defensive depth right now and/or next year going by useful experience:

Potter (Probably doesn't return next year. He's probably choked about getting a grand total of two NHL games before Schlemko upended him.)

Yonkman (Probably doesn't return next year. Was their Captain this year though)

Ramage (RFA... I doubt he has shown enough to warrant qualifying. )

Acolatse (RFA... Righty blast from the point. Has really come on in 2015 with 5 goals, 8 assists, +6 in the last 19 games. Size is average but probably not what Treliving is looking. I wouldn't be shocked to see him qualified but he's also one of the more likely to get the cut)

Cundari (RFA... Tough to say if he gets qualified, I think he can be an NHL bottom pairing guy right now but we're not the right team for him due to his size. He'd instantly be a top pairing Dman on the Oilers for reference.)

Stevenson (AHL Contract, Huska really seems to depend on him. I'm not sure if he gets an NHL-style contract but it wouldn't be surprise if he does)

Morrisson (Has size [Conroy says he's 6'3?], skating, right-handed rocket. Hopefully transitions well enough that he can be brought up to the NHL as his package is exactly what we need out of a #6D right now)

Yevenko

Wotherspoon (Hopefully graduates next year as he'll be a 3rd year pro at the end of his ELC)

Culkin (going into his 2nd year of ELC, injured right now. Looked strong.)

Kulak (going into his 2nd year of ELC, looking strong right now.)

Sieloff (Despite being a 3rd year pro, only going into his 2nd year of ELC as his first year slid. Also missed that first year anyways.)

Kanzig (will enter the 1st year Pro / 1st year of ELC)

Eric Roy (Probably doesn't get signed, unless it's as a LW. Because we totally need more LWs )

Jason Fram (We have no claim to him, but he was a standout during our prospect camp as 19YO and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him given a contract when his CHL season ends)

Sounds like he's got a good head on his shoulders. Nice kid, Huge, can skate, has a bit of nastiness to his game, addresses an organizational need of quality D prospects, wants to be better, knows his weaknesses, understands the pro system of earning ice time, and is absolutely free.

Great signing! 2 great signings in 2 days! Glad to see Brad and Co. working their ass off to address needs and create quality competition for positions that needed to be pumped up a bit.

Maybe Hudler practicing with the Lakers in Philly got Flames management thinking they could run an NBA team too.

Signing Yevenko and Morrison essentially gives the Flames two more draft picks 4 or 5 years ago.

With defensive prospects, you never know which ones are going to climb the mountain. So the more the merrier.

This guy isn't signed... I'm not even sure if the Flames (Calgary) even have exclusive rights to signing the player since he isn't on a Flames tryout.
