He may eventually get pushed out, but Stajan is an important piece of the current team.

Problem being that Stajan and Raymond are signed long term, are hard to trade, and probably wouldn't withstand waivers, versus guys who can move up and down from Stockton with ease (contract status wise).
I'd also say that Stajan is still a much better C than Granlund, who might just end up being a better winger. I actually think Shore is the competition for Stajan next year. Maybe Jooris too, though he is really bad at faceoffs. Plus there's Stajan's leadership factor. You kind of need the old grizzled vet on the bottom forward ranks.
Raymond - I think Byron and Granlund are his competition. Both play better D, and could contribute as much offensively if they start to click.

Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
Karri Ramo gets second-straight start, #Flames Head Coach Bob Hartley not planning any line-up changes vs. #BlueJackets tomorrow. #CBJvsCGY

Really speaks to TJ's character:
Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
#Flames Bob Hartley confirms that today was a maintenance day for TJ Brodie. He said they had to "convince him" to take a day off.

Healthy Byron = Good.
Having more healthy bodies gives a chance to rest players that are banged up, and gives more options for coaches.

Only if you think Byron is as valuable to the team as Giordano is. Do you think that?

I don't disagree with you there, though I see Stajan and Granlund as more or less equals on the ice... but, I think Granlund has shown this year that he should be in the NHL even with the mid-season lull, and Shore has to clear waivers next year. I count 17 players for 13 spots, with 4 (Ferland, Poirer, Granlund, Bennett) being guys that can be returned to the AHL/CHL. Pending possible trades of coarse (Granlund makes sense) it seems logical to me to open up 2 spots (Poirer, Granlund/Bennett) which IMO coincides with 2 players that should be moved out*.
* I personally think that Jones, Bollig and Byron both have roles on this team more important than Stajan and Raymond, though I recognize that Stajan is well liked.

No player is more overated by CP than Paul Byron. Raymond was pretty good last night, rather have Raymond as long as he's putting in the effort on the 3rd line because there's at least a hope he might start scoring some goals, and I'd rather play Bollig and Ferland right now on the 4th line because they are both playing well and can obviously provide something physically that Byron can't.
Raymond starts to cost us in our own end, swap him out for Byron, or if one of Bollig or Ferland play badly, put him on the 4th line, but until then leave him out. I get the whole logic behind saying the Flames have been fine without Gio to etc.... that is used to deflate the argument that says we've been fine with out Byron, but we really have been fine without Byron.

I see them as equals going forward, but if I am looking at a defensive zone start, Stajan is the guy 10/10 times.
Granlund has potential, but he is weak on faceoffs still, whereas Stajan is one of our best on the draw

Byron close. Via Hartley: "He will not play tomorrow, that’s for sure, but if he keeps progressing, Monday could be a possibility.” #Flames

True, but at some point (might not be next year) there will be a point where Granlund should be in the NHL; if there's no room for him here, he should be given an opportunity somewhere else. I could see maybe one more year of spot duty, but not for too much longer IMO.
Same with Bennett ... maybe it makes sense for him to go back to the OHL next year again ... but defiantly should explore making room for these guys.

The team's points percentage without Byron over the last 14 games is .571 vs. .588 with him, but the team's overall record of 83 points is exactly where we'd be at .588 over 71 games. Overall goal differential is virtually unchanged (0.31 with vs. 0.36 without). PK% has actually improved in the 14 games (83.3%) when compared to the prior games this season (79.7%).
The team hasn't missed a beat without Byron. And the loss of Giordano long term would be felt much sooner than the loss of Byron long term. I don't think these are controversial statements.

Stajan really stablizes the 4th line IMO, which Granlund doesn't do (yet). Stajan's board play is a bit better as well. And, yeah, faceoffs are night and day.
I really like him but Stajan is done within a couple years IMO - either traded or bought. I think Shore has shown the all around game to fill the spot, more than Granlund. Granlund and Jooris are the hardest to peg IMO.

Byron gets no appreciation. He has so much impact on pace and forcing his linemates to keep up with him. He provides more than any of Shore, Poirier or Jooris

Yep, there's a reason that even when Byron couldn't score to save his life he was still being used in OT with Jooris/Gaudreau often.
