There are a few reasons why this comparison doesn't exactly fit. But looking at it from an age point of view. Mark Giordano is 32 later this year whereas Keith was turning 26 in July the year the Blackhawks broke out.
Looking at the Blackhawks roster in 08/09, you realize just how young they were. So many players on ELC's or 2nd bridge contracts.

Crazy that the oldest skater of importance was Pahlsson who was acquired via trade at deadline and was 30. After that it was Campbell at 29. 12 of their top 15 scorers were 25 and under.
EDIT: To match the same sort of trajectory as the Blackhawks, the Flames would need to make the WCF next season. (the year before doing this the Blackhawks missed the playoffs by 3 points and were 10th in the West)

Monahan - Toews (Both play great hockey and are captain serious)

Bennett - Shaw (play a similar style, but with Bennet's potential, he will be much better then Andrew Shaw)
Giordano & Brodie (Keith & Seabrook)
Ortio or Gillies - will be much better then Crawford in the future.

Common man. Year 2 of a rebuild....
I apologize to any outside fans who may see this.

The Hawks made the 3rd round before Hossa but he was a key to their cup win the next year.
To be honest I have been thinking about this comparison and don't think it is far off. The Hawks just missed the playoffs after Kane was drafted, they then went to the third round, then won the cup. I doubt the flames move that fast but who knows?
I really like the Gaudreau-Kane comparison and Monahan-Toews. Gio-Brodie to Seabrook-Keith makes a bit of sense but Gio is much older than those players when the Hawks took off

In terms of speed and playing style, yes there are similarities. Saying the Flames could be better in a couple of years is a big statement - that's something we'll know more year-by-year. It's still very early in this rebuild and they could have a setback next year or the year after.
We're lacking a big, young all-around blue-liner who can be a legitimate shutdown guy. And we could use another star scoring winger.
I do love our forward depth though. Having players like Byron, Bouma, Backlund, Jooris, Shore in the bottom six with more in the pipeline fill our 3rd/4th lines with speed, hunger, and tenacity, with the ability to chip in goals too.

This thread gives Chicago too much credit. When all is said and done, I think the Flames will be a legendary team. So incredible, in fact, that the only team who will be able to compete with them will be a scientifically engineered hockey team of their own clones.

No. You got it all wrong.
You mean the Blackhawks are the next former current future Flames.

OK....
....but both squads have two cups, so when it comes to a dynasty the Kings have as good of a claim.

If Satan has his way and the Kings win the cup again this year, they have the strongest claim to a dynasty since the Oilers, really.

Damn, did the Flames win the Stanley cup just after two seasons of rebuilding, let alone that they in the midst of fighting for a playoff spot? I can't fathom fans calling for a blow-it-up to being an elite team in 3 seasons.

Anyone else concerned that Giordano (32 this year) will be coming out of his prime while the youngsters like Monahan (19), Bennett (18), Gaudreau (21), and Poirier (19) will be entering theirs in about 3-5 years?
If you want to keep that Seabrook/Keith 1-2 punch then you might have to find a Gio replacement eventually. Elite Dmen are hard to find though...

No one is "calling for" this to happen. The OP has pointed to some similarities between the current vintage of the Flames and the 2007/08 Chicago Blackhawks. There are similarities: both teams are fast and skilled, and both teams are constructed on a solid young core.
I agree that the comparison today appears premature and excessively optimistic—the Flames are still short on the combination of elite skill/size and depth on the blueline. But by the same token, there is nothing wrong with projecting success for this group of Flames players, which is what the OP has done.
Or, to put it another way: Would I be shocked to see the Flames make a deep run in the playoffs in two years? Not for a second.

Yes. And this is where the comparison is the weakest. I think this sets the Flames back about another 2 years, which is fine in the light of how young Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett, et al. are.

As much as I love toews and Kane, the Flames are the Flames, and the Flames are awesome.
Our kids will be sweet and we will have a modern-day dynasty, but it will be our own.

I think there are similarities but depth and size is a problem. Don't underestimate the presence and importance of guys like Hossa and Sharp and their big bodied forwards who contributed in the playoffs.

Sure, but Chicago did not start with their SC winning lineup in the first or second year of their rebuild. Toews was drafted in 2006, and Kane in 2007. Campbell and Niemi were added in 2008. Hossa was picked up in 2009. Crawford became a starter in 2010.
The point being that the Flames look to have a good start that is possibly comparable to how the Blackhawks undertook their rebuild.
