Who else likes this?

Jay Bouwmeester: 59 GP, 2 G, 8 A, 10 Pts, +6. 85 blocked shots, 22:49 Avg ice, $5.4M cap hit

Kris Russell: 67 GP, 3 G, 25 A, 28 Pts, +15. 237 blocked shots, 23:40 Avg ice, $2.6M cap hit.

I remember so many people asking how we were going to fill the void when Bouwmeester left. Kris Russell has not only filled it, but totally surpassed what Jay Bouwmeester ever brought to the Calgary Flames.

St Louis was one of the few teams who appeared to out-class the Flames this year in that 4-1 loss at the start of the year. SInce then, the Flames have played much better, but the Blues have been improving too.

Hoping the crowd can lend some support to the boys tonight, they'll need it.

Not a game I expect us to win, but if we do we're sprinting the rest of the way to the playoffs!

And that's with Bouwmeester's pay cut.

When we traded him he was making $6.6M!

Did I miss something or is Poirier in the doghouse? This is one game where I would have liked to see him in with Stajan and Ferland.

Not a knock against Bollig, but I think Poirier brings a bit more offensive touch.

Is this just a matter of Bollig earning it these days, is Poirier injured, or is he the healthy scratch?

Poirier is still a young kid and still doesn't have a lot of experience. Bollig has been playing well so there's no point putting in a young kid just for the sake of it. Poirier won't make an impact playing on the 4th line either.

C'mon AC, by now you should expect us to win any game. We hammered the ducks, why can't we do the same to the Blues? Have some faith sir!

What is going on with Bouwmeester anyway. Those point totals are shockingly low.

He is playing on a team with high expectations. High expectations = pressure.
Bouwmeester + pressure = mediocre/bad d man.

If I had to guess is say it's his experience and youth. Hartley needs to trust his players and this is only Poirier's first year pro with actual systems.

Just a guess though

Most important game of the year so far IMO. If they win this, they are set up very nicely to cruise into the playoffs.

4-2 Flames

This post could go on any GDT from two weeks ago to the end of the year. Every game from here until we clinch is the most important.

Love big games!

Those Russell vs Bouwmeester comparisons are awesome. No one ever thought it at the time, but now we can easily say that Russell is the type of player we all envisioned Bouwmeester becoming.

Not that it accounts for the salary discrepancy, but one of Bouwmeesters best selling points is his durability. With the style of game that Kris Russell plays, you're not going to get 82 games a year.

That said, I'd rather have 27 year old Russell, Emile Poirier, Hunter Smith (via Reto Berra) than 31 year old Bouwmeester and a 5th round pick.

I dunno. I heard Hudler wore a track suit, was late for a meeting and told Treliving to shut his mouth and stop lying.
