I thought I read somewhere that his gf had a baby or something like that
I read that too, but they are denying it. Not that a denial means anything, but really, nine days for your girlfriend to have a baby is a little excessive.
Who knows if there is a baby or not, but if there is, it's no reason to go MIA for this long.
He's apparently scheduled for a public appearance on Monday.
If it was as something planned in advance I would assume there would be coherent excuses prearranged and possibly fake video.
I think it is health related or he had a spur of the moment desire for a vacation and told everyone to wait for his return.
In Russia vacation take you

Amid claims that Putin has not been keeping well, Daily Mail, citing pro-Kremlin Islamic Committee chairman Geydar Dzhemal, reported that former Federal Security Service chief Nikolai Patrushev staged a stealthy coup in Moscow.
Further backing the rumour that Putin has been taken out in a coup, social media reports claimed that several tanks were spotted outside Kremlin after a three-hour power outage.
Vladimir Putin is 'alive' but 'neutralised' as shadowy security chiefs stage a stealthy coup in Moscow, it was claimed last night.
Former FSB chief Nikolai Patrushev was behind the plot, claimed chairman of the pro-Kremlin national Islamic Committee, Geydar Dzhemal.
There have been no confirmed sightings of Putin for nine days, while in the febrile atmosphere engulfing Moscow a convoy of large trucks parked outside the Kremlin fueled rumours of a flit by the president.
I am seeing reports that this is actually a Photoshop. The attempts to fool the public into thinking that he was seen cruising around in this matter are false. I'm worried.
There has also been an intriguing posting on photo-sharing website Instagram by one of Mr Putin's close allies, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.
In the posting, Mr Kadyrov renews his pledge of loyalty to the president and adds: "I am devoted to him as a person. And this regardless of whether he is in his position or not!"
This feeds into another theory which some speculate could be the reason for Mr Putin's strange absence: that the unity of the ruling elite surrounding the president has cracked and a powerful faction has now turned against him.

I'm not actually surprised to be honest. All of the recent stuff with Ukraine screamed of man desperately trying to assert the illusion of strength, but I think he overplayed his hand.
